Transmission/Prop Selection

Post by The Dog House »

I was able to pick up a PV33R (2:1) Paragon V drive at a fairly good price. I have this in my garage as a backup in case something goes wrong with my current transmission/V drive (1:1 ratio). My original intention was to have the PV33R rebuilt with PV31 gears in the V drive to change the ratio to 1:1. I'm now wondering if I could increase the pitch on the propeller instead of changing the gears. I'm currently running a 15 x 11 propeller. If I use a 15 x 22 propeller with the PV33R, theoretically I should be moving the same amount of water. Is there any reason this won't work or is not a good idea?

Good chance you will break a shaft . By going with a 2 to 1 from a1 to 1 you are doubling the torque to the shaft .

Thanks Paul. I didn't think of this. Hopefully I'll never need to use it, but if I do I'll have it rebuilt with a 1:1 gear set.
