Trojan 12 meter - Hatches will not come up!

As we were out on the water this weekend, the engines started smoking - so much that we actually got the kids off the boat, when a fellow boater came along. It seems to be the port side motor, and more than likely the intake got plugged with weeds (this was the first day all year we were able to have a wake on our lake) So we have the mechanic come over - but can't get the hatches open?? Any one have any tips on how to open them? Hydraulics won't get them up and so they can't even be lifted up. Any tips... PLEASE let me know! Thanks in advance!

I too have a hydraulic lift. Make sure the switch is in the "on" position on the breaker box. There should also be another breaker reset. Mine is in the engine compartment. If this does not work and you need to lift the hatch, it can be disconnected by undoing the large nut at the top of the hydraulic ram. I would make sure you have 2 to 3 friends to help lift it, as mine weighs about 300 lbs. It should have safety arms on the sides.
