The commonly accepted amount is 5 gallons, but I put through 10 gallons because antifreeze is cheap and engines are expensive.

I pay my marina to do it (both engines, genny, and A/C), because if it's not done right , any repairs are on their dime.

Always had the F-26 done by the marina but thought I could save money doing the twins in the F-32.
I think the fact that it their issue if something goes wrong sound right,

I have 400 Chryslers. I just winterized them on Sunday. A few years ago I added tee fitting with a plug just after my thru hull fitting. I attach a funnel and pour antifreeze while the engine is running at temperature. My boat draws raw water thru the engine (no heat exchangers). The engine needs to be warm (thermostat open) otherwise the antifreeze doesn't go thru the engine.

I know this is the conventional thinking but you don't need to do that IMO. I've done thousands without a warm up as I've always done them out of the water for several reasons and have always had the block fill with antifreeze. If you need peace of mind, pull a plug just long enough to check, you should be doing that anyway.

I have trouble agreeing to that. I like to play it safe knowing that when the thermostats closed water mostly recirculates and doesn't go thru the block. There are 2 impellers on my pump. One for the engine block and one for the exhaust. With the thermostat closed the water recirculates and also goes directly thru the exhaust.

Like I said, I just like to play it safe and do it hot.

Bob, like I said, I've done thousands with single and dual pocket pumps and have a zero failure rate without warming up the engines. But you need to do it the way you feel comfortable for sure. Me, no worries doing it cold, I know some always by-passes the t-stat and a quick check confirms it. When you do as many boats as I do, you quickly learn that doing it while the boat is still in the water can be a pain sometimes so I haven't done it that way for years. As a result, I can't warm them up first, not efficiently anyway.
