Mini AC in Berth

New to me F32...

I've been reading a bit about adding AC units and I surprised to see that the recommended size is 16k BTU.

I was looking around and I noticed that the opening to the anchor locker is just about the perfect size for a 5/6k btu window unit. Although it seems that this is far from the ideal size to cool the whole boat, I am curious if it will be enough to cool the berth area just to make it tolerable for sleeping.

If you are talking about installing it into the rope locker, it will not have enough air flow to cool the unit. Window A/Cs use air to cool the unit. Marine units use water to cool the unit. The rope locker will quickly heat up and the unit will quit working.

definetly no on the window unit
however on my f32 i had installed this 5200btu mermaid ac/heat (see link below)unit under the v berth. made a box for it so it was sealed and only pulling air from the cabin return and not the bilge. split the air ducts outboard to each side above the 4""shelves or offsets that run the length of the vberth sides to exit the air into the v berth (actually also tee'd one into the head) space and ran the return grille on the small apx 12" wide vertical wall fwd of the sliding drawers. worked great keeping the vberth cool since the main crsuiair 16 ac unit thermostat (mounted in the salon) could never keep this correct when sleeping etc. since it was out there. i had installed a digital control which worked great with the unit keeping the temp but trying to sleep was a killer up in front because the v berth would heat up and the salon was still cool enough to not call for air. with the small ac unit and thermostat in the sleeping area it was great no more sweating!!!! :D
