Hello,
I was wondering if anyone has any experience with restoring a 12 meter international dashboard. The central indication in the center has the paint coating on the back of the panel coming off and not sure what paint to recoat it with. I have tried to post a couple of pictures below

Here's what I would do,
1)Take some good pictures of what it looks like before I begin (done), just in case I screw it up and have to take it to a sign maker to have the dash reprinted.
2) blast the back with a soft blast media..baking soda or crushed walnut shell, being careful around the lettering and boat outline, you really don't need to go over those areas because you just want to remove the paint that you can see through the glass and not behind the decals.
The soft media will remove the paint and give the glass a fresh consistent appearance.
Spray with a 2 part paint, colour and catalyst, that matches what the original was.
Paint suppliers in my area will mix as small amounts as 1/2 quart
Good luck with how ever you tackle this.

Barrie,
Thanks for the reply. is the paint you are referring to an epoxy or acrylic or other? I will have to look into the soda blast and where I may be able to get that done.
Regards,
Phil

Hi Phil
I would use an epoxy
I don't know what you know about paint, I'm no pro but I have gotten myself into many projects over the years that I had to get very creative with. I've made a couple backlight signs using vinyl lettering as a mask then spraying epoxy on the entire back the removing the vinyl letters and they have held up for 15+ years outside 24/7/365
A 2 part epoxy paint bites, even into glass and being 2 part uses a chemical reaction to dry (harden) and there is no shrinkage.
The hardest part I think of your dash will be getting only the paint from the background off and not the text and pictures

Thanks again.... I was scraping at some of the loose paint and can see that keeping the existing lettering and outline is really going to be difficult as you suggested. I think I may be able to paint in just the area that had the loose paint. Trying to do the whole area is likely only going to open a can of worms..
