cold start problems

Some help would be great.....76 Tricabin...twin 440 chryslers...Port side COLD....3 pumps..Starts perfect..Let idle for about 20 seconds and bring down to 1000..Idles fine ..No stalling.......HOWEVER....Starboard...3 pumps..Not even close to starting....Not even after sitting for only 24 hours with a high of 80 degrees during day and low of 60 overnight...It ALWAYS need 6-7 pumps...It will then start perfect...The problem starts when I TRY to back down the throttle from 1400 rpm...It will stall right out.. I find it always need to idle at 1400 for at least 3-4 minutes before I can back it down to 1000... I usually let it warm up for about 10 minutes before I TRY to reverse... Even after 10 minutes on a HOT day it will stall out if I try to pull it down to 800rpm..That is leaving me even after 10 minutes of having to reverse at 1000-1100rpm to stop the stalling....NOTE...After driving to boat for 10 minutes or so I can pull the throttle back to 600-800 and NO stalling.........INFO....Fully tuned up,about 2100 hours..Motar sounds perfect and runs perfect once TOTALLY warmed up after 10 minutes of running....Any thoughts would be GREAT....Cindy

Could be choke stuck open and the acl pump in the carb could be weak . You also could have a vacum leak and or a carb running lean or all of the above

IMHO the choke isn't connected.... check the choke to see if its being pulled on.. Chryslers are usually good starting engines but it sounds like the choke linkage may have come off or taken off for tuning the carbs and not put back together....
I have my fingers crossed... Good Luck!
vacuum leak

sounds exactly like a vacuum line leak in the choke. I would replace all the vacuum lines on the engine. Both port enging and starboard.
A cheap way to eliminate that issue and probably solve your problem.

I'd pull it out and replace it with a 6BTA Cummins....they don't have chokes.

What carbruators? Are the choke plates fully closing at start? On many crysl carbs, there is a low idle bypass port in the carbs that might be pluged up with gunk. It looks like a 3/16 hole from the top but if you look down in it, there is no screw in the bottom. Insert the "straw" from a can of carb cleaner and flush out the port. See if that helps before you spend 200-$300 on a carb rebuild.
