11Meter water heater LED

On the step unit from the pilot deck to the salon there is an LED labelled "Water Heater". I assume that it runs off a "passive" connection [torroid or "donut" coil] that generates enough juice to light the LED when the water heater is drawing AC current. Does anyone know if this was standard equipment on the 11 Meter or was an aftermarket addition? One of the connection pins is broken off the LED and I am trying to figure out a replacement that will fit in the existing hole.
Thanks!!
Dave

My 12 meter does not have this, nor do I see anywhere it would have been wired previously.

I do not have such a setup on my 11 meter either, but sounds like a good idea. We only flip the hot water switch on when we know (15 minutes or so before) we are going to need it. However, one can easily forget to flip off the breaker after a shower or doing dishes.
I am a bit curious as to why an LED as those can often glow just from leakage current. Wondering why not a simple 110/220 indicator to indicate power to the coils?

Thanks. From your and El L Sea's posts, it appears this was an adder
Two reasons I can think of for going with the inductive coil are, lower voltage on the wiring going to the lamp [which is easy for forget about and damage when moving the step unit... he said knowingly] -and- since this requires current flow through the coil, not just voltage on, it tells you that the heater is actually working. If the heater coil dies, the light won't come on.

Blue sea offers a lot of LEDs . Jimmy what type of water heater do have that takes 15 mins ? mine takes a lot longer to heat 12 gals .

I am not sure what Make it is, but I can look. To be clear it is not HOT in 15 minutes, but plenty warm enough to do warm water things.

Never assume intelligence with what a P.O. may have done. Trace the wires and figure out if it is a low voltage inductive pickup showing when the heater is heating, or 120V AC when the heater circuit is turned on! Some people do really strange things... don't want you to get fried assuming this is a low voltage setup.

Amen on that . And with the age of our boats hands have been everywhere .
dlattan do you have photo of the light ?

captainmaniac: Agree 100%. Kind of why I initiated the post to see if it was from Trojan. The legend plate made it look somewhat professional. Easy enough to check the voltage, and I can look for the torroid. If it is wired to 110, it is on the coil side of the thermostat, as it is only on when actually heating.
prowlersfish: LED is at house, legend plate and mounting location are on boat. I did find [online] a panel type LED indicator that will work if the voltage is correct.
Thanks,
Dave
