I am finishing up the projects on a 36 Tri Cabin I purchased about a year ago. I have put off some projects with getting both engines functional (rebuilt) first. Now I am tackling the sanitation issues. The forward head is the most straight forward with replacing the old hose which looks like the hose I used on my pool vacuum to the incorrectly installed Y valve.

The aft head is where I am having problems. The PO installed the macerator directly on top of the holding tank with the discharge going to a loop in the adjacent hanging locker. There is just something about having a sewage line in a clothes locker that upsets me. There is also exhaust hose going from the vented loop to the through hull. Also there is no line from the Y valve to the pump out fitting, so everything must go overboard.

I want to correct this "questionable" installation and I am at a loss to figure the location for the macerator pump. I guess the question is did Trojan install a pump on the original boat and where did they install it. I am not up for a complete head refit at this time as I plan on using the boat for short day trips. Longer ones will come later.

well I just finished the same thing on my tri-cabin. First I disposed of all the flexible hose by using hard pvc piping, it does not leak odors. what I had to use as flexible I used the best quality flexible and not the pool hose type stuff. I have two macerator pumps and no y valve, one for each toilet. I rebuilt both pumps and one is mounted on the outboard side of the port engine on a wood base the other is mounted outboard on the port side shelf which is to the port of the black water tank, which is also new. All the compartment at the bottom of the stairs to the v birth. I also installed new toilets in for and aft heads.

The better quality piping I figure the better. Next I made activated carbon air filters for each tilet (the toilets can hold 9 gallons each) and two carbon filters for the black water tank(45 gallons). One vents to through the hulls port and the other vents to starboard. Seems to me that air pressure will never be equal on both sides of boat, ergo a flow in and out at all times.

The filters were made of 2 inch PVC pipe 12 inches long with caps and appropriate barbs on end for vent hose hook up.

I have posted on site a place to purchase activated charcoal. Some go to tropical fish stores but is cheaper to buy in bulk. I got 8 lbs bucket for some 20 dollars and can recharge my filters 8 times as a guess.

If you are looking for good hose that will contain odors, you should consider Trident Sani Shield. It is pricey, but I have never heard anything bad about it.
