I always use 15w-40 on my boats gas and diesel . You also can use straight 30W or 40W depending on your climate . 6 or 7 qts I believe ( some one may verify this )

The Napa Gold 1515 oil filter is made by WIX. Excellent filter and reasonable. You need a suction pump for the extraction, no way around that. For the filters, I loosen it enough so that I can turn it by hand then wrap a food storage bag around it. Then I keep turning while keeping the filter surrounded by the bag which catches all of the oil.
It's great that the filters are easy to get but wish they mounted them vertically. About the most I get out is six quarts and I use Rotella.

I use a WIX 51515 on my crusader and straight 40 weight. Straight grade oil is better for the engines of older vintages.

You should really look for oils with higher zinc and phosphorus for older engines. That helps protect flat tapped cams. The newer oils are for newer cars. So they have removed the zinc and phosphorus that protect our engines because it affects emissions on newer cars.

Also, consider Camguard:

Good for engines that sit awhile between uses.
