Has anyone installed any out-of-the-box fuel injection kits available such as pro-jection etc? I am planning on building a custom install using a Haltech FI Computer and injectors but want to explore what is available now in the form of a "universal" install. When reading the various brochures the mfg claims better mileage, better response and more power but I wonder why I do not see any of these installed. I have a mercruiser 228 in an F-26

I would not do it of the 2 people I know that have done it. never ran right . they where nomt happy with it . both were good techs ( one owns a marina ) both of the when back to carbs . If you you want EFI buy a Engine with it ,not a may work kit .

Absolutley agree with Paul. For your application and use, even if you did get it to run half way decent, you'd probably wouldn't see much fuel savings advantage...

A complete major tune-up on an old motor is easy, doesn't cost much and makes them run great for years to come. My 351s have been in this F-32 for 30 years running on points and when I bought it they ran ok but I noticed ruff idling so when I went to tune them up I pulled the distributor caps off the points were green with corrosion and the points tips were almost completely gone, one set only had just a little nubbin left. The point is that they still ran ok even with burned up points and green slime all over them. I found out that they were installed in 1992 when the engines were rebuilt and had 1400 hours on them. I don't think that is normal for them to run in that condition but I think about how good they'll do after a major tune-up.

Thank all of you for the response. I bought this boat as a "garageman lein" and paid two years of storage for it. The boat has less than 900 hrs on it but needs cosmetic work (cleaning and removal of the shag orange carpet.). I own a new boat with fuel injection and really has spoiled me but I would assume that taking care of what you have is the best answer. This forum shows plenty of Trojan owners who do just that.

rsciolino Nothing wrong with EFI its just that these add ons don't work well for normal type boating
