fuel tanks

Trwiz, What was the reason for replacing your galvanized tanks? I have owned many old Chris Crafts with galvanized tanks without problems. Now you guys have me wondering about the 2, 80 gallon galvanized tanks in my F36 tri cabin. In fact, the only boat I owned with tank problems was my Chris Craft Commander that a previous owner had replaced the old tanks with aluminum ones. They developed pin holes at the corners. Big expensive job for sure. I think I need more input. Thanks, Jimbo.

we removed the 242 gallon aluminum tank on my International in 2005 while doing he refit for an inspection.
It showed some corrosion on the bottom, rear pobably caused by an inoperative rear bilge pump allowing water to collect in that area.
The tank was replaced and the bottom and 50% of all 4 sides was covered with a special primer and epoxy topcoat made especially for aluminum.
That's the last tankshe'll ever see.
I don't want diesel fuel sloshing around in the bilge.
Seriously....
Gasoline?
Consider the safety of your crew.
You'd better check those 25+ year old tanks!

If you've got them out....don't put them back. If you don't like aluminum tanks, look for a place that custom makes the cross linked poly tanks. I've not seen poly tanks over 55 gallons. You'll probably wind up with aluminum.

tanks and bilge pump systems are items way too serious to skimp on, period.
