Anyone know where to locate replacement hinges and hasps for the wood handrail on a trojan f32 read?
I am starting to re assemble her for the season and dont like the pits in the finish of mine and would like to replace them.

i called bob at beacon marine and he had a used set and sent them off to be rechromed and they came back looking brand new. you might want to get a hold of him. it may take a few calls but it was worth it for me. good luck

Have yours rechromed. It will save you the effort of trying to track them down.Mac32 wrote:Anyone know where to locate replacement hinges and hasps for the wood handrail on a trojan f32 read? Check the grave yard section of the boatyard. You'll need 3 pieces for each gate; the hinge, the locking end on the gate, and the aliening and receiving bracket on the stationary rail. The port and starboard ends on the gate are different, so make sure you have the correct ones. (The release button for the lock is on the inside part of the fitting.) If you can’t find the exact brackets that Trojan used you may be able to get the hardware from another make of boat and modify your rail system so the new hardware fits.fpawn1 wrote:I have been looking for similar part for my handrail--presently do not have a gate.
Any ideas?

hinge
as above i bought mine from beacon. on my 78 f32 i had no hinge on the stern rail or anywhere else for that matter and the wife and i got tired of climbing over the rail when on the swim platform so my price was having to purchase these first and then having him send to be rechromed but i think i paid $280 total with rechroming. so really dont know how much just the rechroming was but that may give you a start. for me that price was well worth it, you may think differently but since you already have them your one step closer than i was

Rechroming parts is not cheap. There isn't a set price per piece. Generally the rechroming shop won't quote a price without seeing the parts. They base the price by how much work will be involved in restoring the pieces. This is what is involved:Mac32 wrote:What kind of cost are we talking?
1. Stripping away of all old plating.
2. Sandblasting.
3. Filling in the pits, while still maintaining the true shape and contour of the piece. This includes a series of fillings and hand sandings until pits are eliminated.
4. Plating in COPPER for 4 to 6 hours
5. Another series of hand sandings and polishing to a lustrous mirror finish.
6. A series of cleanings.
7. Heavy plating of very bright NICKEL.
8. CHROME plating.
9. Final polishing.
My best sugestion to you is to find a local rechroming shop and bring in your pieces and get an estimate. (Generally the more peices you have the cheaper the price per piece is.) If a local shop is not aailable there are shops on the internet that can do the job.
Here is an on line site that can give you an idea of costs:
