scuba???
not sure if this qualifies as a trojan topic but anyway,,,,,,,,,
My wife and I are going to take our first Scuba class next week,
I was thinking about it when I saw a guy who was having the bottom of his boat cleaned last weekend, by a rather nice looking scuba girl. I thought that was pretty cool. I always wanted to do it, but to be honest it scared the sh >>>t out of me. So with that said, I decided to face my fears and do it,,,,
has anybody had their boat scraped by a scuba diver,,????(this one should stir up some crap,,,,LOL)

i ve been diving for about 15 years and i think its one of the greatest things ever. unfortunetly where i live in tn. the lake is very murky. i have a few rock quarries that are open for diving around but we must travel to do much diving. i have dove for different things under my boat but we dont have anything growing like you guys in salt water. if you enjoy the water or snorkeling for sure you will love scuba.

I have scraped the bottom of my boat many times using scuba. I live in coastal NC and am able to do this without a wetsuit from June - September. It really isn't that hard and it beats going to work. I take it out to an area with fairly clear water behind a barrier island on a hot calm day. I do it on a weekday and usually there are no other boats around.

I have been certified for 20+ years (elarend with a former girlfrined who would try anything), but I don't clean my own bottom (hoep this doesn;t go the route of the POOP article now) ...
My diver cleans my boat's bottom monthly, and replaces rudder, shaft and trim tab zincs as needed (about every 2-3 months each here).
He's a great guy - and saved my $1,000's by working with me to replace my starboard strut IN THE WATER last fall! He works on everything from my boat size to ships, and is invaluable when problems arise!
Have fun diving - I would do it more, but my wife can't stand a mask over here face ... so we snorkel here, in the Key's, Caribbean and Zihuatanejo Mexico.

Don't forget another important thing to remember when underneath a boat at a dock or swimming near a boat at dock...disconnect all shore power going to the boat. Also be wary of any unsettling looking boats nearby as well.
Folks have been killed by stray voltage in the water. Leaking power cords, poorly wired docks and pedestals, bad grounds, etc...Scary. Be safe.

Ross-haven't been out yet. Just puilled the boat out of the limestone mine where I store it for the winter. I'm starting to really get the itch-I didn't put her in the water last year-spent the summer working on the house. I installed the batteries yeasterday hooked up the garden hose and wanted to see if she'd fire up after not being started for two year-she fired right up-music to my ears. I'll probably splash in (Ashtabula OH) memorial day weekend.
