Part out F-26?

Post by landandtimber »

I have decided to end my project on my F-26. I need to downsize to something more managable. I really hate it but I have a baby due friday and I need to simplify things as much as I can. I am in Montgomery Alabama and I feel like there is much less appreciation for these Trojans around here as there may be in the great lakes areas and the north east. Therefore I am thinking of parting her out. The boat is 99.9 percent there. There is not a rotten spot on the boat and I have a rebiult 350 mercruiser and BW transmission ready to go. As far as Trojan stuff it is all there. I want to keep her together if I can but if it comes down to it I will have to part her.

So what do you guys think, I love these boats and I dont want to break her up. Is there a market for this boat as she sits? Or do I need to just start Ebaying her (after I give everyone on here a chance to get what they need)?

Don't do it-you'll regret it. My wife and I had our daughter out on Lake Wylie when she was 5 months old (in a 16' starcraft). Take a year off, do some work on the boat, arouind the house etc and boat next year. Unless your wife really has a problem keeping the boat I'd keep it. Its not a good time to sell a boat given the economy, you won't get what you think it's worth and to part it out would be a huge shame. My two cents worth.

I agree, don't do it if you can help it. In this economy boats are everywhere and cheap. You won't get nearly as much as you think and later you'll wish you had her back.
Good luck in your decision and especially with you and your wifes new baby. Kids are the most important thing in life!

Congratulations on the new arrival, and I think it's a good idea to "hold" on the decision to sell or part-out the F-26. It's a perfect boat for a small family and I agree that the baby would not be a hassle on the boat next year. We raised 4 kids on a 25 foot sailboat before we got the F-26. If you can, keep it and work on it over the next couple of years. If not, you gotta do what's best for your family.

Thanks for the feedback, I am going to try to sell it as a whole and see what happens. Time and money are not as much of an issue as space. The boat has to be out at the farm 20 minutes away instead of at my house where I could work on her much easier. I just bought a Century Arabian to resell but I am thinking of keeping it because it is so much more manageable. I will post the F-26 on the boats for sale section soon. I have very little money in her so I don't need much to get out alive. $2600 could take her today. Thanks again for the input.
