F-24 legal passenger capacity

Post by Neal »

I recently purchased a 1973 F-24. I have looked all over for the legal load but can find nothing. Does anyone know how many people the F-24 was designed to carry?

Your boat doesn't have a "capacity certification" from the Coast Guard, as smaller boats do. I've had 13 people on my boat for 65 miles once, due to a buddy boat breakdown in calm seas at a moderate cruise with no problem.

Let common sense dictate your capacity for all circumstances. Fuel, load, conditions, etc.

You are required to have a PFD for each person aboard.

If the boat appears to be overloaded, it is like a target asking to be stopped, boarded, and inspected by the Coast Guard or local law inforcement and ticketed for even a minor infraction.

I was stating USCG regs but the National Marine Manufacturers Association states otherwise. Thanks for the clarification.

USCG reg: Maximum weight and persons capacities Applies only to monohull boats under 20' except sailboats, canoes, kayaks and inflatable boats.

NMMA reg: Applies to boats under 26' including pontoon boats, sailboats canoes, kayaks, and inflatable boats. Persons capacity specified for fly bridges and upper decks.
