memorial day adventure on Erie

Got a late start for the weekend and wasnt able to go to the lake until Sunday morning. And thats when the fun started!!!

First of all this was our maiden voyage from drydock to our summer spot. The wind was blowing and pushing 3 to 5 footers on Erie. Got to say the F-28 handled it like a champ. she just plowed right thru it. Couldnt stretch her legs but all was well, had good oil pressure (55 PSI on both engines) temp stayed at 160.

30 minute trip

got to the dock and she slid right in no problems.

plugged in the shore power cord, and turned on the main breaker and the needle gauge wouldnt register. after about an hour of fiddling I tape the face of the gauge and the needle reacted! So it was stuck! Thats an hour that I wont get back.

started turning on each individual breakers and all went well til the last one (twin 20 amp) kept popping. after some dismantling and tracing I found that the previous owner must have had a window A/C unit in the stern wall that was removed. Well guess what he did.......he coiled the wire into a junction box with both wires bare and in contact with each other!!!!! What in the hell was he thinking!!!! Needless to say that was taken care of immediately!!! lucky no fire!!!!

Finally got everything up and running!! So we took some time and enjoyed some adult beverages!!!

Monday, wife and I started scrubbing everything down and she decided to take the curtains down in the salon. She put them in a garbage bag to take home and wash. Well guess who took the trash to the dumpster at the end of the day. We didnt relize what happened until after we got home and was unpacking that I had thrown the bag with the curtains in it in the dumpster!!!!

So I drove up yesterday morning to do some dumpster diving and by the time I got there the dumpster had been emptied!!!!

Well....last evening I went to Wally world, bought a sewing maching and some fabric and I guess I'll be making new curtains!!! So if any body has any dimensions they can pass along that would be great!

GOES TO SHOW THE BAD GOES WITH THE GOOD!!!

Well my Memorial Day weekend was a little frustrating. I didn't put the boat in last year-had to paint the house. So I stored it on a trailer at a self storage facility last summer (and then in limestone mines this past winter). When I pulled it out of the mines last month I noticed some bugs-they looked like beetles-so I set off a "flea bomb". Killed some but noticed a week later more, so off went another bomb. My "bombing" of my cabin now resembles the allied efforts on Dresden-6 or 7 bombs later I still have a bug problem. The bugs are what are known as "stink bugs" which I am now told are almost impossible to get rid of. The don't bite, they don't do any damage they are just a real pest-literally. Well I'll keep trying, and Im not going to give up.

Several years ago with another wife in another life with another trojann we drove 86 miles home with the garbage in the trunk and all of the towels and bathing suits in the marina dumpster, Discovered the mistake when we got home . it was a long quiet ride back down to the shore . luckily the dumpster was still there and after diving I got the correct bag. Interesting what a lot of stuff goes into a dumpster after a long week end

Back in '99 when we sold our sailboat and bought the mighty Blue Heron I was rear commodore of our yacht club (not a lah dee dah club, but a coop club started when they built the lake in 1930). We did our usual passby at the other club on the lake and then the "fleet" headed back to our docks. We were coming in and I had never really handled a powerboat before. There were several people already back at the dock waiting for us so natch, I had an audience. Came in nice and slow, put her in neutral just before reaching the slip. You know the rest of the story....no steerage from that teeny tiny rudder, and to make matters worse the engine stalled, so now I'm heading into my neighbors boat, people are scrambling to prevent that accident, the wife and I are crying like babies, babies and young children are crying like babies.....my neighbor's eyes are looking like 2 saucers......Folks get us headed into our slip, I get the engine running and then, of course, put it in forward......oh the story just goes on and on......boat slides into the slip, past the dock, up onto the walkway in front of the bow.....Thankfully it stalls again and we slide back into the water, and pop right into the perfect position to tie it off. That was 10 years ago, and every time we come in there is a mad scramble to help us dock, even though we've done it perfectly for years. Make one little mistake.........

Ive done something similar with my bass boat. wind was blowing like the dickens and the rain was coming down in buckets. got my trailer backed down the ramp. and pushed the boat up and over the trailer!!!!

I did almost the same thing last yr. Had a few adult beverages, put curtians, towels etc in garbage bag to take home. got home, no bag, run back to marina, check dock, no bag, check dumpster, no bag, and it wasn;t emptied. Hum? go home, next day go back to find the SOB who took them, found them in the parking lot, next to where my car was parked, forgot to load them!! good thing my wife had driven home.
