vinyl sticker removal

I have a 82 10 meter that has the vinyl sticker on the sides and rear transom of the boat. I am about to change her name and need to remove the old name, and would really like to take off the deep blue vinyl off the entire transom if possible. I looked around and have read about hair dryers and plastic scrapers... anyone have any luck with this?

used a scraper to lift the edge,then peeled.had to use rubbing compound to buff out the silhouette.could still barely see it for about a yr,but eventually faded...

I would suggest you use a cloth preferably micro fiber. Soak it with Goo Gone then apply it to the vinyl and then use a razor blade scrapper to lift the edges or to scrape off the vinyl. Then soak the cloth in Goo Gone again to get the glue off the hull. The more you soak the cloth the easier it is to get the glue off. The Extreme Goo Gone seems to work quicker and easier then the original. But the original is good to--the one in the 80z bottle.
I to changed my boats name and researched on all the different methods. This one worked for me.---Good Luck. It even got rid of the vinyl shadow.

Heat gun and plastic scrapper is the best way. Use gun to soften and release (not too hot) grab edge and lift. I then used graffiti remover in the spray can and a clean cloth to remove any left over adhesive. Use 3M compound and buff out , follow up with polish and buff to a shine.

I removed the 2" boot stripes from my 18' center console a few weeks ago.

It worked best if I lifted the edge a bit, and then heated slightly (not too much as others have also warned) with a heat gun (or hair dryer), and peel towards the heat. Too hot, and the vinyl and glue will just metl completely, stretch and rip. Too cool and the vinyl won't peel well at all (and will rip, leaving you to peel up the edge again). I did use a scraper with a brand new razor blade in it (actually a clean older blade worked better as it dulled a bit - just make sure there are no jagged edges) - but have to be VERY careful.

Done right, most of the glue will come with it, leaving little lacquer thinner cleanup ...
