What length is your boat? What kind of steering gear are you looking for? I have a bronze rudder (with stuffing box, tiller arm, and all mounting hardware) from a 1975 F-26 Express cruiser that I'll sell for a reasonable offer. I upgraded to a larger rudder. I can email photos if you are interested.

It is listed as a 26 foot on th e title. No model name can be found on the boat.

I need the tie bar, tiller arm and rudder. It is powered by a single 318 chrysler.

I would be interested in your offer. Can you post a pic of the parts and the dimensions of the rudder. I will measure it out on Tuesday when I get back to work.
Thanks,
Steve

Trojan F-26 rudder

Post by chucka »

Mine also has a fresh water cooled 318, (which I replaced with a re-manufactured 318 this spring) Trojan offered F26's with both straight drive, which is what I have and a V-drive rear facing engine. I'm not sure of the model years. Here is the rudder

Image

Image

rudder stock dia=1"
cast bronze rudder with bronze shaft overall height=31"
shaft length = 16"
rudder casting height = 15"
rudder blade height =12" x length (fore & aft) 5-3/4"
includes: stuffing box with mounting plate, packing nut & 4 silicon bronze carriage bolts with nuts
bronze shaft bushing (mounts on the timber above the stuffing box)
bronze safety collar - attaches to shaft with a split pin to prevent the rudder from dropping out in the event the tiller connection fails
Tiller arm(cast iron-painted) dimension from the shaft CL to the pivot on the tiller arm is about 7"
Stainless steel clevis (pivot connection to steering cable)

Contact me by email to make an offer if you are interested. Keep in mind that I paid about $35 just for the stainless clevis. You can check that out at West Marine PN289884.

In the interest of full disclosure, I upgraded the rudder because I found the boat was not responsive enough at low speed. I moor in a crowded tidal river and getting in and out with the tide running was a little too exciting with that small rudder. I've seen others put an extension on the stock rudder. (see http://www.ctlow.ca/Trojan26/ksenia.html I decided to go for the full enchilada. I got a larger rudder from a marine consignment shop and upgraded stock and stuffing box to 1-1/4 dia in the process.

I replaced the steering cable on my 75 F26 last year. The closest I could find to the original was a Teleflex rack system. I'm pretty sure it is PN SS14116. I had to modify the dashboard slightly becuase the new rack is slightly deeper than the original and wouldn't fit in the original space.

You asked about info on the boat. Check out this url for photos you can compare of mine. Also a spec sheet with a review from power boat magazine.

My 1972 F-26 Hardtop has a Trojan Hull number: 231-2061 so I would assume it would be a F26. I sent you an email. I have the spec sheet for the 1971 trojans I can send you.
