Deck Replacement / Repair F36 1978

Post by cuppa »

Does anyone have an idea of what it would cost to have the Decks on an f36 repaired. I had a survey done this past weekend on an F36 1978 and there was rot in the balsa core.. no surprise.. I was aware of an area behind the anchor locker, but was not aware of the problem in the other areas along the side of the house and forward of the windshield..

Has anyone paid to have this done...

Has anyone done it themselves... How time consuming is it?

Is it as simple as removing the skin removing the rotted wood and replacing it with new balsa? and then glassing it back in?

What else needs to be taken in to consideration?

There are some really soft areas, but the majority of it is just realy wet...\

This was determinted using a hammer..

I would say it is about 75% of the Deck and sides

Our expert deck man, Willie, had a thread a while back and has posted some great pictures and he has experience with these Trojan soft deck issues.

Check out this thread and replied links. Good luck with your quest for your answers.

workin on it now, did the guest cabin from underneath. This winter i;ll do more.. lots wet balsa has dried out on the boat and left many empty holes. quick fix is to drill a one and a half inch hole, suck out the crud and fill with LOTS of polyester.

There was a lot of discussion on this topic around Dec 2005. Go back and you'll see several repair methods.
