Had to go away for 2 weeks to spray a underground tank liner. had extra material so I decided to spray my fuel tanks to protect them. I sanded the tanks down with 60 grit to give me a profile to get a good bond. I then scrubed the tanks down with a chloride rinse to remove any salt residue from the metal. I then sprayed about 100 mils of polyurea coating on the tanks (think LINEX truck bed liner) this product will not chip or crack and should prevent any further corosion. Decided to completly take apart my wifes new jeep and spray the interior to keep it from rusting too (what a PITA!)

Hi guys I'm Back!
Hunting season has been winding down so i've been back on the boat. I just pulled the engines off the shelves. Took off trans, stripped off manifolds and all accessories. Should be taking them to the machine shop next week. Went out to harbor freight and bought a sand blast cabinet so I can effectivley clean and prep parts for paint. I wasn't happy with the prep using DA sanders so I just invested in two 4x30 fairing boards to work the gel coat alittle more to prepare for primer. Too cold to do fairing or primer right now but as soon as I get a break in the weather the painting will begin! I'll be posting as I make progress.

Take Care,
Todd

Hey Todd,
Glad to see you're back at it again. I'm in the process of rebuilding our port engine and trans this year. I did the starboard last year and went with a two tone blue look. I think it turned out pretty good. It's a lot of work, but well worth it. Definitely need a sandblaster and a lot of wire wheels and sandpaper. Also repaired a stringer and repainted the bilge while I was at it too. I'll create a post today and start adding some pictures.
Good luck, I know it will turn out great.
Take care,
Mike

Sound like you have been busy too Mike!
Well I spent the afternoon trying to kill myself, uh i mean working on the boat! Got a workout spending 4 hours straight sanding with 30 inch longboards. Got the entire hull sanded with just a few spots that will need to be filled. got abot 1/4 of the topsides done. Im going to have to move the boat away from the wall of my shop so I can get a scaffold completly around it to effectivly reach the rest of the topsides. I'm really close to having it prepped for primer but am at the mercy of mother nature. It was 21 degrees when I opened up the shop today. I think west system is good down to 35 degrees with the fast activator and awlgrip 545 primer has to be above 50. I have a big torpedo heater but dont feel comfortable using because of the contamination from the burned diesel fuel on the surface. After 4 hours of sanding I spent the next two hours putting together my sand blast cabinet.
I decided that I didnt want the areas of the cockpit that I patched to "read" through the new paint since they were smooth and the remaining areas still had the factory non skid. I had previously sanded the area with a DA sander. I took a stainless steel wire brush and did my best to scratch the low areas of the non skid texture. after a wipe down with acetone I skim coated the entire cockpit with west system. (it was 62 degrees last week when I did this!)

The blast cabinet is working great. Engines are getting dropped off on monday. Got frustrated last night while working on the boat. I needed more room to work on the topsides with a scaffold. I completly tore my shop appart today and moved the boat out of the corner and into the main area of the shop. Thank God my Dad bought me the 20K pound boat dollies!! Its not exactly where I want it as I had to rush home for my kids, but its close. I'll have 4-5 feet all the way around it when I get it where I want it. I was alittle worried to move it after my friend pointed out the hour meter to me last night but we made out fine.

Engines finally went to get rebuilt!!!! I finally got around to removing the bow pulpit. At first I thought it was totally rotted. all the glass was cracked and soft on the underside. I cut the skin off and to my surprise there was very little rot. the plywood around the perimiter was in great shape. The balsa below the teak section had some rot but only about 20% was bad. I removed the balsa which was only about 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick. I plan on building it back up with fiberglass .

Todd, I noticed in the pic of the cockpit by the rear corner engine hatch there is a access hole. Is this for fuel sending unit access ?
I seen another boat listed for sale with the same set up, of course my fuel sender is dead and can not get out from under the deck. Seeing your pulpit makes me think I should remove and check mine, always a project.

The access holes in the deck are to access the sending units. mine were not sealed well and I had to replace some core material so do a good job sealing the core if you add them.
RWS, Its a piece of cake to remove the pulpit. I did it in about 10 min. Its alittle heavy but you could eaisly tie up to a T dock with the bow over the dock and pull it off with a friend. I dont think Im going to go crazy with it as it seems pretty well built just like Bob said. I'm going to strengthen the area that bolts to the hull and leave the rest alone. I'll take plenty of pics.
