Relax to all of you! Boat is removed from the trolley and into a nice crate in the workshop. All without no accident. The work is now in progress!

Re: Work....work.... And more work!
I considered Cummins for my refit.
however even with the downangle transmissions, they were far too tall
That left me (in 2005) with the choice of Yanmar 6LP or Volvo.
The Volvo were computer controlled
The Yanmar were old fashioned Bosch rack fuel injected turbodiesels.
Yanmar easily won, hands down

Re: Work....work.... And more work!
I am not sure, but I think it will end up with a pair of Volvo´s in the belly. Not the newer computer controlled, but a pair of old fashioned 41 or maybe something in 60 series. But I have to admit; There was a guy who called me one evening. He had a couple og Hino´s 310Hp with gears. Reasonable price, and I think the engines is reliable. Another guy want to sell me a pair og Volvo TAMD 63 K, given 375Hp. Both of engines with gearboxes and all electric. Nice price also.... HELP!!! What do I do??

Hinos are not very common over here other the some lower power ones in Bayliners . They do have a very good rep in that application . Volvos have a good rep , but over here IMO the support is poor and parts very high . Your market maybe a lot different .

Re: Work....work.... And more work!
You see Volvo spares are cheap in Europe. And there is a lot of workshops and servicestations around. Yes, Hino is a good brand, in Asia. Not in Europe. But on top of my wishing list is a pair of Ford Sabre 320. To your question about speed: Cruise 18 - 22 knots, top end 30 knots.

Sounds like Volvo may be a good choice , What about Yanmar ? How is their foot print over there ?

Re: Work....work.... And more work!
We´ve got a lot of Yanmars over here. But they are too expencive, at least for me to afford. I guess we can hav two Volvos for one Yanmar, at the same power. Spares for Yanmar are also quite expencive. The "cheapest" (not the worst!!) seems to be Volvos and the English build Ford Sabre engines. And the Sabres looks much more "classy"......

Re: Work....work.... And more work!
they're really nice but from a reliability standpoint my belief is the fewer electronic components and the fewer electrical connections n a marine environment, the better.
no computer controls, sensors, electronically controlled fuel injectors, high pressure rail or anything like that.
Just gimme a simple 4 stroke diesel with a Bosch pump and I'll be happy

Re: Work....work.... And more work!
Hinos are nice engines, and while there are still quite a few boats out there running them, do some research and I think you'll find that the hardware to marinize them is becoming scarce. If I recall, there were a few other small items of concern with them but it's been a while so I can't remember what they were. OEM engine mount issues is one that comes to mind.

Re: Work....work.... And more work!
Good Folks! It is time for a minor update. The old lady is now well parked in the workshop. We have started the blasting of the bottom, to remove old antifouling, paint and stuff. I have found some minor damages that we have to redo, totally 2 sq.feet in the bottom. We have also started removing all electric wires from the engine room, removed all soft panels and decks, removed swim platform, fender list around the whole boat, remove all trough hull valves and seacocks, plus plus..... Lots of work...!
