Thanks, yes we should have a Trojan parade with our boats when they are done. I don't know anyone else in the SD area with a trojan but surely we can't be the only ones!

Originally, I was shooting for oceanside marina because that's closer to where I live and I like all the activities and action there. But now I'm thinking I might like somewhere down in SD would be just as good if not better in some ways. Seems like there may be more things to do and cruise around in SD bay area. Plus it will cut the fuel costs when going down to mexico for fishing. Maybe you can give me some pointers on the different marinas down there?

Mark,

I wondered if ocenaside was on the list, it is certainly close to you, but your boating choices is open water, however, a fairly fast run to Catalina.

It seems as if the Marinas are opening up now with the economy and all so you have a lot of options. Harbor Island is right at the airport, air and car traffic is kind of a drag and the Marriott is very expensive.
National City built a new marina that is really nice, but that would be a long haul for you to go to the boat.

I live in Scripps Ranch and it takes me 25 minutes to get the the boat in Coronado,

Mission Bay is a nice place but still a bit limited on the boating area, however you get the great sea world firework shows all summer, and I understand they have a nice3 marina to boot!

If your not a Yacht Club Member, I think I might choose a marina in the SD yacht basin, AKA shelter island. Humphreys has concerts spring through fall and you can get almost to the front of the stage by dingy. many great memories there !

As far as other Trojans, you'll be surprised, I had not seen other Trojans until we bought ours, now there is a 36 and two 32's that frequent Glorietta bay. I think there is another boat like yours for sale in SD at the moment.

You are doing fantastic work.

I was wondeirng what spark plug wires you used. I had a distributor kit with wires that I installed, but the wires are a bit too short and I had to scavenge the second set to get enough long wires. I need a good wire set that can be used for regular and counter rotation.

Sounds like you may have used a automotive set , The marine sets are longer to get around the manifolds , They are in most cases a better made wire .


What dist kit did you use ?

I used a marine specific distributor, wires and coil from Mallory Marine. Mallory (best known for their automotive stuff) also has a complete line of marine specific products. Actually, their marine catalog is quite large with 468 pages of marine specific parts for just about everything.

When I bought mine I was doing some research because I was thinking about converting my system to electronic instead of points. When I priced out everything to for the conversion route (conversion kit, cap, wires, coil, etc), I realized that I could get this kit for @ 100 bucks more and it would be marine specific electronic as well as new billet distributors to replace my well used mechanical distributors.

I researched for you and the wire kit that it comes with is their 9-28012 set. Here is one source if you just want to buy the wire set:

None of the plug wires in the 9-28012 set were too short, they all had plenty of length for the under-the-manifold routing. I think you can see how I routed mine in my pictures I just posted and you can see the space/slack available.

Hey Mark,

Might be a great time to add a few additional 12 volt engine room lights.

I added five to mine. put one in each cornerand a second one near the fire extinguisher.

This makes a HUGE DIFFERENCE in dealing with maintenance and just checking on things.

The only significant cost was the explosion proof covers got them at WW Grainger.

Careful here however as you will need to watch your wattage, I overloaded mine and had to get smaller 12v bulbs.

Also, don't forget to change out all of your engine zincs.

Adding some additional engine room lights is a great idea, Thanks. I have a dumb question. I did notice the existing engine room lights from when I had the batteries hooked up to start the engines, way back when. I noticed they are in explosion proof covers. However, at the time it puzzled me because the bulbs looked like regular 110v light bulbs. I didn't remove the covers and inspect the bulbs at that time, just wasn't a priority. I didn't think they would be 110v. What kind of 12v bulbs and sockets are they?

they are actually 12 volt bulbs that look like a std 120 volt lamp.

Bob,

That's a great find, and a great price. I'd love to hear how they work. I have plenty of time before I need them. I'm wondering if there is some USCG requirement that these lights have to meet?

Just a thought, why not use some LED's in these enclosures? The wattage draw would be significantly less and they put out enough light. Just a thought.
