Got a call from my marina manager yesterday afternoon. Said he noticed my front bilge pump working overtime. I had my brother (who has the same boat, different year and docked right next to me) go down and investigate. My seacock to my a/c system was still open and the water cracked my strainer, causing water to flow.
He shut the valve off with some vise grips because the yard never installed a handle to my seacock, which they replaced...all's good and no damage. I had heat in engine rooms but not in Lazzerette...
The reason for this post is that had my boat not had power to maintain batteries for the bilge pumps, the boat, over time may have sunk. Also fortunate enough that it was noticed.
Below is a picture of my friend's F32 which sunk at the dock in DC, by the fish markets, two winters ago. Don't let this happen to you! Let's all make it to Springtime, which is now 49 days away!

It still looked beautiful even underwater. Was it in great shape before it sank? How long was it underwater before they got it out? How many hours did the engines have on it? What year was she? I'd love to have a couple of the hatch hold down latches if it is going to be scrapped.

Boat Name: A TAD TOO MUCH
Model: 1978 F-32 Sedan Cruiser
Engines: Twin Chry 360's 666 hrs original engines
Forget what year, maybe a 77, 360 Chryslers, new flooring. Ran Okay, needed TLC.
She was birthed at a couple of different marinas over the past few years. He never had it surveyed for insurance. When the marinas asked for the proof of insurance, he blew it off... he was kicked out. Went to another marina until they finally kicked him out via tow by the harbor police. They tied it up along a warf. Without power, bilge pumps gave out and with snow and water, sank.
It was refloated by divers and lift bags a few days later and hauled to a marina some 20 miles down river where she sits today. This is a result of procrastination...
He tells me one day he will rebuild it but I don't see it happening...

I have seen boats sunk on dry land because the drain plug or plugs were never removed after they were hauled. The boats filled with water over top the engines. I know of three like that. Word to the wise, check and make sure that the marina has pulled the plug or do it yourself.
morning guys, before i head to the airport for my orlando turn this morning, i wanted to ask if the salvaged f32 was going to be ''parted out''. i know this sucks, but, i think he could get double the worth if he did that. god i hate to see a boat sink. and my mom wonders why i am down at the boat almost every day ''just to check on her''. i think ill send phil down today since i didnt go down yesterday. take care guys, and ill catch up when i get home.

Don't let 'em words come back to bite you in the a$$!
you got to put the boat in the water before she can sink !!
Most people keep their boat in the water , Jason keeps the water in the boat
Put it in the water with holes in the hull?
Seriously though one thing I've thought about having, if and when I get the money to fully restore the boat, is a spare batteries hooked up to the bilge pumps and a separate float switch that would set off notification to my phone and email when the water goes above the float switches for the bilge pumps.
While the batts won't last forever running the pumps and I may not be cloe enough to get to the boat, having notification will let me get someone to it before the water gets too bad.
I don't typically see many people in my marina so I'm not sure I could rely on someone noticing if the Mystic was going down.
Why not put in a 120 volt pump to run off shore power & use your 12 volt pumps as a backup in case of a power failure and when you're underway. I saw a Rule 1800 gal pump at West Marine for $145.00. Cheap insurance really. My 36 Sea Voyager is getting one in a couple months.
Our F32 has been at our dock (400') 4 years with NO shore power - we have (4) Solar Panels.
Also - they do make the call phone dialers to alert you as well!
We went out today (flew my new Trojan Burgee!). Beautiful day about 60F. Tightened the shaft seals when we got back (the lowest bilge pumps was running every 15 minutes), and the batteries (2 ea. 4d and a Group 27) charge up great in the sun each day!
Trojans are great looking boats - always proud when we're out! And made Spring (45 weeks to Daylight Savings) seem just around the corner.

AuxiliaryComms you can google a company called boatsense solutions which can be purchased at hamilton marine they have a unit that will text your cell phone with messages you set from your boat. high water, 12v low, etc etc. you could install different sensors/switches that you want to monitor, this is the least expensive unit i found that is set up for this purpose.
