F-32 counter replacements

thinking of updating counter tops in galley of 81 f-32--current ones are original brown formica---are the tops screwed in from the bottom as in a regular kitchen?-- how about the formica top on the island??--are they attached to anything else??--was thinking of taking the oven out and replacing it with flat cook top---any ideas on getting cabinet doors for where the oven was---

Any and all ideas are welcomed

We use thestovetop very little.

I like the idea ofremoving the factory cooktop and puting in one that is recessed, with a lid over the top.

This way the counter space is increased.

This idea is included in our upgrade plan when we do it.

i know the one in my 78 f32 is not just screwed down like at home it is more like all the kitchen pieces are intrical to each other and the counter is part of that. i am looking at redoing my counter top right now i have white laminate that is original in mine. i have looked at a lot of laminate and other options. i do not plan on totally rearranging the galley and stove, i just got through replacing the single bowl sink with a much larger one that is very useable unlike the original sink that you couldnt even put a plate in.although it is not a double bowl sink it is larger and much deeper and you can actually wash dishes in it. back to the counter. i am actually (call me what you want) looking at putting 12" black granite tiles on the kitchen counter and something similiar on the backsplash . sounds dumb maybe but look at how small this area is, yes there will be some more weight but not really. not even another human beings weight. my wife and i think the trade off will be much nicer than changing to another laminate and this project is something i can do without forking over a ton of money for someone else. the laminate is something i could do too but i think this will be better, anyway its what she would like to have. it will probably be a couple of weeks but i can post pics if you would like when i am done

G36, I too was planning to redo counters in the galley and both heads using granite tiles and trimming the front edge with teak. I plan on replacing the sinks in the heads with vessel units. You know, the new rage in bathroom sinks that sits on the counter with a neat pedistal fawcet. Loew's have smaller, black glass ones for about $70. The fawcet is the pricey part but I think it will look great and quite functional. I already have a nice double sink in the Galley. Anyone else tried this? I think the weight is minor. Hopefully, as all my countertops are on the port side. Jimbo.

I love the garbage disposal idea! Sadly the fridge sits under the sink with ZERO clearance.

I'd really like to hear more abou these "granite tiles"

My galley, tabletop and cockpit wetbar are formica and really need an update.

There are lots of "curves" on these surfaces of the International which makes formica theeasier route.

The upper counter, sink counter and dinette table-top were all replaced with black Formica by the previous owner of our boat.

We'd love to change it, and are interested in what everyone else has gone through ...

hi jimbo i'm glad to hear someone else is also considering the granite tile. i was alos going to use the teak trin on the edge.i think it will look great we took home a few to lay on the counter and it really makes a difference in the look. i thought maybe i was nuts to consider this, granite on a boat. anyway i'm not sure in my head i could use your sink idea but maybe have to look furthur at those options also. i wish i knew what i could put on the walls in the head since this also functions as the shower area so it can get wet even being very careful with a shower curtain. i would like to update this area also. there is currently the original wall covering and although it still looks okay it would be nice to update it.

rws these tiles are at home depot and lowes in the same section with all of the other ceramic tiles. we went to several tile places and they have exactly the same tile but of course more money so back to lowes we will go to purchase. there are different sizes but the 12"x12" is what we will use. i 'll be happy to share pics when i'm done if someone is interested

I just tiled mine with blue, glass tiles I saw at Lowes on the clearance counter for 10 bucks. Cheap, light and only took 1/2 hour to do it:

On my F32, I put down Pergo flooring, galley to V birth. I used a small mil moisture barrier underneath. Has shows well for the past 3-4 years, with no wear.
