i bought a set of used rupp single spreader outriggers with the bigger tri-pod mounts and what i'm wondering is when i bolt them onto the boat should i use some kind of backing plate on the mounting bolts? i would hate to stress crack the fibergalss.

I would... the size required depends on where you put it. Where are you planning to locate it, Aft rail?

Yes you should use backing wood block will work.
Ready I don't think you can mount those on a rail

thanks! it would make sense to do that. now, what do i use to clean off all the saltwater stains? i have a demel tool and a buffing wheel with rubbing compound but its going to take forever. is there anything that works better? it's gotta be a nightmare for you saltwater guys keeping all your fishing gear and stainless steel salt free!

Its not that bad , soap and water /hose and go / and wait till it rains when the water iscut off do to low temps. Rupp Auma guard is good stuff to use , but it is very slippery ( don't use on hand rails or you could slip)
