fishfinder/gps/radar

Anyone out there update your electronics lately? I've got an old (91) Raymarine tower and old Garmin GPS with no fish finder. I was interested in an all in one but am not sure if I can update the radar with newer glass without replacing everything. Any suggestions would be great as I'm kind of lazy tonight and don't feel like searching the ends of the internet to find out what is my best option.

If you have a raymarine dome / array ( tower ???? ) you can contact raymarine to see they have a new display that will work with what you have . But I will bet the answer is no .

Garmin makes a good all in one as do others . Furnuo makes the best Radars but costly when you get to the all in ones , Garmin has the best gps . this is all IMO . tony likes the Lowrance stuff ( has not used the radar yet but look good on display )

Standard Horizon is coming on strong. Heard it's best bang for the money. They also have large multi displays now. Worth looking in to. Perhaps a Google search on some brands will lead you to some forums that have feedback. Depends on your budget and what you're willing to give up (quality, features, reliability etc). I have the older Raymarine RL+ series 10" colour display running the GPS, and sounder module. Looking to add a radar dome; keeping my eyes on eBay. The RL is at the upper helm, and is hooked up to a laptop at the lower with Raymarine software. The setup has always been realibale for me. As mentioned before, you need to consider with multi function displays that if it fails, you loose ALL function. Carry charts. I also carry a portable GPS that I can interface easily with the laptop to get that function up and running again if the RL packs it in.

Garmin is the best GPS I've found both for water and aircraft applications.

I'm probably in the minority, but I like the JRC radar. JRC had the original patents on radar many years ago and to this day manufacture and private label many of the popular brand radar units. They continue to make a wide variety of high-end and large marine radar units used aboard very large vessels.

They used to make smaller, entry-level units for around $1,000 but have apparently discontinued that line. They still make units with a 10" display so they are still in the market for our size of boat and if you think that their units look familiar its because they private label for many of the popular brands - that is according to an engineer I spoke to recently at JRC who had been there for 40+ years.

I am running a muilt function 12" Koden unit (Radar FF Gps chart plotter), But I only really use it for radar , I have 2 garmin GPS units u and Furno FF .

All in ones are nice But if it fails what then ?

Standard Horizon ? no radar at this time

Don't have their own but they are designed to work with Si-Tex radar.
