Shaft Anode Size

Post by The Dog House »

According to my manual, I have a 1" shaft on my F26. I purchased a shaft anode for a 1" shaft, but when I put it on there was a small gap (1/8") between the two halves. Is this normal? The anode it replaced had the two halves fused together, and I had to use a screwdriver and hammer (gentle tap) to break them apart. The old anode did not have a gap between the two halves. Thanks for letting me know if this gap is normal.

You'll have some gap, as you tighten down the two screws, tap zinc with a hammer to seat. If it were flush when you put both halves together, it wouldn't stay in place long.

tighten evenly ...I use two hammers one to hit with and the other behind it too take the shock..instead of the shaft.

Yup, a gap to start is normal. If the anode has a copper nipple on the inside middle of one of the halves, you must give the half a blow with a hammer onto the shaft. These are used for better contact/continuity with the shaft thus better protection.

I'm on the Delaware River (brackish), so I use aluminum anodes. Zinc is not reactive enough.
