Re: Rudder on the rocks...1980 F25

Thank you for the input, very much appreciated. Boppy, your's was really bad, also glad that there is no hull damage. I was able to remove the rudder (had to dig a little hole in the gravel...lol) and with the help of a shop press, straighten it out to the point where it should be good to go. Not pe...

Rudder on the rocks...1980 F25

Greetings, so we got wet again this weekend after four years on land and apparently forgot how dock lines work, ended up in the rocks at the marina momentarily. Boat was in the water for a few days and operated normally, smooth steering and tracks pretty straight, no abnormal vibrations etc... When ...

Re: Carter AFB Metering Rod Questions.

$29 ignition module fixed my starting issues, much work and tuning and we are on the water...Never seems to be just one issue with these old motors but either way we are pretty happy now. Thanks for the input all!

Re: Carter AFB Metering Rod Questions.

Well then, local shop "The Carburetor Shop" in St. Paul had a refurbished 1409 for $199 including base gasket, needless to say i purchased it, already drilled and tapped for PCV. Going to install over the weekend and hopefully have good news to report. In other news, still fighting an inte...

Re: Carter AFB Metering Rod Questions.

I was able to straighten them a bit, but in my experience with the land version Edelbrock/Carters they never really work properly after that. Thanks for the input, going to try and match up a set of two-steps from an Edelbrock calibration kit first but will likely just bite the bullet and buy a 1409...

Carter AFB Metering Rod Questions.

Hello, I managed to bent the heck out of the metering rods in my Carter AFB in an apparent momentary lapse of mechanical talent...Current ones are three step units and I have not been able to find a replacement. Ran it today with the bent rods in the freshly rebuilt carb and she is not at all happy ...

Re: No such thing as a stupid question?

OK, thanks for the replies, the stock tachometer was my biggest problem. She is now neutral idle at about 750, in gear idle close to 600, seems happy if not a little slow but that is fine with me. I am only getting about 3500 on the big end with a clean bottom, tabs etc...Prop is a bit chewed up fro...

Re: No such thing as a stupid question?

Also need to point out the fact that at 1800 RPM idle, the speed of the boat is perfect, minimum wake, perfect.

Re: No such thing as a stupid question?

OK, so the neutral idle is running 1500, i am suspecting a bad tach since it sounds closer to 700 to me, reading 1800...In gear it runs 1950 (acording to the tach). Sounds pretty close to that but let me get a reliable reading and I will reply to this thread. I am able to run her down to about 500 w...

No such thing as a stupid question?

Hi, Plan J is a 1980 F-253 with a 318, velvet drive and lots of love. I have read that my "starter" prop should be a 14x10 cupped, and I am pretty sure that is what is on her. I am wet on Lake Minnetonka for the season and would like to idle her around 800rpm, currently sits at 1800 closed...
