Hello, I managed to bent the heck out of the metering rods in my Carter AFB in an apparent momentary lapse of mechanical talent...Current ones are three step units and I have not been able to find a replacement. Ran it today with the bent rods in the freshly rebuilt carb and she is not at all happy about it.
1980 Trojan F25 with a single Chrysler LM318BWR10 and Carter AFB 9263S, the current rods are stamped 6-541 and are a three step rod. Have not been able to cross reference this number. I know the Edelbrock rods use four numbers which would translate to .650/.410 but those don't have a dash and are two-step.
I am thinking that a 2-step would be fine just not sure of which one to use, we are inland cruising only at about 900 feet above sea level.
Here's my idea, I initially sweated the cost, but it made such a huge in improvement with hot starts, fuel economy, I couldn't have been happier. Edelbrock 1409, everything bolted right up , fired right up,

I agree with the above...change to a 1409...just put two on our boat to replace two old 6212s afb's.....keeping what you have will require your bent rods to be straightened (not impossible).....or a change to two step rods will require hunting for a few to try to get the mixtures right and you will have to alter the rod caps to use the two steps,again (not impossible), then you still have an old afb....Mike
I was able to straighten them a bit, but in my experience with the land version Edelbrock/Carters they never really work properly after that. Thanks for the input, going to try and match up a set of two-steps from an Edelbrock calibration kit first but will likely just bite the bullet and buy a 1409.

Looks like you had to drill and tap for the PCV port? Also, electric choke...Just need switched 12vdc run to it?
Well then, local shop "The Carburetor Shop" in St. Paul had a refurbished 1409 for $199 including base gasket, needless to say i purchased it, already drilled and tapped for PCV. Going to install over the weekend and hopefully have good news to report. In other news, still fighting an intermittent ignition problem...Have replaced the rusty reluctor and pickup as well as the coil, cap and rotor, wires, plugs...some days it starts, other days it does not, no rhyme or reason, I always check voltages when it wont start and everything seems normal. Seems to me that a previous owner replaced the distributor with an automotive version since the marine part# pickup does not bolt in as designed and the shaft seems to be a bit to big for the marine part reluctor wheel, the 1975 charger/318 slides on but not firmly. Thinking about just scrapping the OEM ignition and getting the Pertronix version, less parts to rust out...Not sure if they make one for this motor either...Anywho...Going fishing this weekend for that gremlin, would rather be fishing for walleye...
$29 ignition module fixed my starting issues, much work and tuning and we are on the water...Never seems to be just one issue with these old motors but either way we are pretty happy now. Thanks for the input all!
