We're getting pretty close on making an offer on this boat. It's very nice, with recent PCM repower. The only sticking point is the lack of generator. It had the 6.5 Onan, and it was removed by the previous owner. All wiring, mounts etc are still there. My question: Do I find another 6.5 Onan, or po...
I run a 3 blade 14x9 cupped. It works pretty well. But I also have a fourblade 13x13 that I'd like to have reworked into a 13x10, (if it can be done). I've read some great things about running fourblades on older inboards on the Shamrock and Penn Yan forums. I know our hulls are different than those...
I've never experienced the sudden turn you talk about. The closest thing was this: Once while passing a plowing cruiser, I dug the bow into the next wave and the boat swapped ends on me. Luckily I was only going around 15mph, so it wasn't bad.
My stereo is installed on the rear bulkhead just above the upright seat cushion. I think this was a factory location, because I've seen others in the same spot. I used a car-grade stereo, not marine since it was inside. For speakers I use Poly-Planars. Good sound, and very waterproof. Two in the car...
I ran again this weekend on a just-cleaned bottom, and saw 21MPH (not knots) at 3400rpm. Cruise was 18mph at 2900, pretty as you please... fuel consumption was 7.5 to 8 gph at 2900rpm.
I really lucked out my platform, it appears to be the exact right size with no trimming. I goes all the way to the edges of the stern. But I was prepared to either cut a platform that was too large, or live with one that didn't span the entire length. Attaching the platform was simple, but it's a 3 ...
Hi Joe! I bought a full width teak platform on ebay, complete with brackets. It was around $200. It was an all-day affair to attach it, but not too hard. I cut the railing, and installed "L's", to make it easier for my wife to climb over the transom onto the platform. I also installed a st...
At slowest idle, I'm around 2-3mph. That's 550-600rpm, just barely ticking over. With the 1:1 ratio, don't know if you can go lower without killing the engine. In a good state of tune, that 351W will idle quite low. My 351W in my 1970 Donzi will idle around 500rpm all day long. I'm in Clear Lake, ne...
Sivak, in my experience these boats are extremely sensitive to bottom condition and weight. I attribute it to the 1:1 transmission providing no torque multiplication. (And the low hp motors) Other inboards I've driven with 2:1 or 2.5:1 trannies are much less sensitive to weight and drag. (I can vary...
Sorry, "newbie dragging up an old thread" alert! My '79 F-26 Flybridge (318 Chrysler, 1150 hours and 14x9 cupped prop) makes 22mph at 3500 rpm with a clean bottom. If I empty the boat and take the bimini down I can go a few miles faster at 4k rpm. But weight and bottom condition really dra...
