Looking at a 1978 F32, coming back to the Trojan family!

Post by JimG »

We're getting pretty close on making an offer on this boat. It's very nice, with recent PCM repower. The only sticking point is the lack of generator. It had the 6.5 Onan, and it was removed by the previous owner. All wiring, mounts etc are still there.

My question: Do I find another 6.5 Onan, or possibly one of the newer technology (smaller) gensets like a 3.5-4.5KW Westerbeke? Would it pull the A/C?

Thanks!

I'll give you my Onan

I'll give you my Onan - its a heavy pain in the butt. Why do you want a generator anyway?

Jim,

depending on how big the AC unit is, a 3.5k generator should work just fine. My only concern fro overload would be in the AM if the AC was on and the water heater kicks on and, someone decides to make toast etc... with 3 high draw appliances, the 3.5k starts to get over loaded.

:D I'm in Texas, a genny is a neccessity!

Rossjo, I might just take you up on that!

Jav, thanks for the info. I'd like to go with a lighter genset if possible, and some of the new 3.5 - 4.5's are pretty small.
