Checking In :)))
It's been a while since my last activity on here. I'm happy to say I'm back and many of you will be happy to know that I have not and will not be tearing apart my trojan. After 2 unsuccessful long road trips to Virginia I decided it was time to get serious and move the boat closer. The boat is now a...

Re: Reconsidering
I did finally find the prop recommendation for the boat I want to build. It recommends: Quote "The weight of the engine should be kept to a minimum for best performance, however engine weights to 1500 lbs. are acceptable. Either gasoline or diesel engines can be used. The engine drives through ...

Re: Reconsidering
@ prowlerfish: Sorry for the long delay. Lots of personal and business stuff going on. But to answer your question of what my main uses or goals will be. I want to be able to do it all. Cruise/troll all day for commercial fish. Pleasure during off seasons. Fun with friends. Etc, etc. And yes a hold ...

Re: Reconsidering
RE: What is a displacement hull? "The two main types of hulls for trawlers are the full displacement and the semi-displacement. An example of the semi-displacement hull is the Grand Banks line of trawlers and the Kadey Krogen 42 is an example of the full displacement hull. The difference...

Re: Reconsidering
The boats from the series "Wicked Tuna" are fiberglass and wood as well as fiberglass over wood. These boats can handle very rough seas and are what I believe to be full displacement hulls. They are very efficient and slow going. 200-300 gallons fuel and only one engine. Each boat has a ma...

Re: Reconsidering
@ prowlerfish: I'm gonna keep you around for a while. You bring up alot of good points. I thought about props all night and decided I'm gonna stick with my little one. It should be able to cruise at 10+ knots. And with only 1 engine running off 200 gallons I should be able to cruise/troll all day. @...

Re: Reconsidering
@ prowlerfish: Boat will be constructed of wood and epoxy with a thick layer paint. I can't really see the cost going over my estimate but it may. The good thing about a build is you can just buy the materials as you go. I'm debating adding a layer of glass as well so we'll see. @RWS: I like your id...

Re: Reconsidering
$6300 in just hull materials. Not motor, as I already have 2 perfectly capable gas ones. The plan calls for either a gas or diesel engine putting out 120 shp. One of mine is 225 hp. That leaves me with an extra engine as well. @ Prowlerfish. I'm having a hard time seeing the hull cost as much as 10x...

Re: Reconsidering
Thank you gitchisum. I will be sure and keep you posted. I want to try and come up with a name for the new boat that honors my f-31 and would love any ideas or suggestions.

Reconsidering
My original plans as many of you know was to convert my f-31 into a more efficient offshore tuna fishing machine. After being schooled on hull types and learning that this was not really gonna work well, I am now considering building a 33' downeast style lobster boat. Project should take about $6300...

Re: F 31 Fuel Tanks
Thank you guys. It's just the last thing I wanna worry about when I go 3 hrs out is will I have enough fuel to get back in. What if I wanted to troll while I was out there. I'm just trying to plan ahead and not have fuel worries. I had a 16 foot ski/fish boat that I had to always refuel in the middl...

Re: F 31 Fuel Tanks
Yeh I apologize. I may have been a little upset still. Anyway I do have some common sense and weather and conditions will more than likely determine how comfortable I feel and how far out I can go. I did manage to find two plastic 126 gallon tanks that I can mount below deck. It would be increasing ...

Re: F 31 Fuel Tanks
I was gonna post yesterday but I decided to hold back. I'm calmer today. I wanna start by saying that I wasn't the one who took a 19ft on a great lake. Even being from the south I have heard so many horror stories of boats and ships claimed by the great lakes. That would be the equivalent of me tryi...

F 31 Fuel Tanks
Has anyone replaced there fuel tanks on a f31? If so who did you use? What was the cost? I want to put custom tanks in that are not cylindrical and utilize space more efficiently. Maybe someone still has the drawings or a company that already has them. My hope is to get more fuel capacity in the end...
