Hydraulic steering problems

Hello, anyone knows what brand hydraulic steering pump is on a 9 meter international 1983?
Also how to bleed the system?
The steering is turning for a long time and the rudders move very slow. The boat is out oh the water now and I do not see any leak anywhere.

If you have bleed TEE fittings at the end of the lines on the steering cylinder, you could bleed the system there or you can simply turn the helm back and forth several times (takes a while) and the system will bleed itself.

Yes, the wheel turns too many times with very little movement on the rudders.

Most the 10-12 meter boats used the Hynautic system . Not sure on the 9 meter The Hynautic system uses a reservoir that holds fluid and is under air pressure . That would be a good place to start if you have that system . check the fluid and pressure and bleed it as BigD said . Can you post a Photo of the helm pump ? We can ID the system .

Mine came with a pump instead of bicycle valve, all you do is pump it a few times and the preasure builds up to 35 with a few strokes.

My 12m also has the built in pump, but to save on smashed knuckles because of clearance, I also carry a tiny bike pump (which also works great to plump up the fenders).

I also had to replace the Schrader valve, as it was leaking ever so slowly.

What is the Schrader valve?
FWIW, When I pump it to 35 PSI it will keep the pressure for the whole day and maybe more, but the rudders don't turn unless I turn the wheel 15-20 times in one direction.

1.You have air in the lines this is why you have to turn the wheel so many times to get rudders to move.

2. The helm pump is leaking causing air to get in lines and the loss of pressure.

3. The ram is leaking causing air to get in lines and loss of pressure.

4. The fact you can not keep the pressure for more then a day or so means you have a leak some were.

5. There should be signs of oil leaking under the helm or around the ram.

Sounds like you have a leak for sure and pretty good on at that . How much fluid are you adding ? Have bleed it as noted above ? Hows it work after bleeding ? look at all the areas Bob described .
