Need some thoughts on an engine issue with my 1977 318.
I was out the other day, and one of my freeze plugs popped out...
it was a while before i noticed it, until i saw smoke in exhaust due to high engine temperature .
when the freeze plug pops out, fresh water from lake does not get up into top of engine where thermostat is, and temperature probe
I poped in a new freeze plug, and was back in business, only now, my engine thermostat does not give a reading...
any ideas on what needs fixing?
is thermostat stuck in some position?
do i need a new engine temperature sensor?
thanks all!!

Re: Chrysler 318 Engine help overheating
If you have an infrared temperature gun, you can measure the temperature at the thermostat housing and compare it to the gauge. You might also make sure the lead to the temperature sensor has not come off -- mine fall off sometimes when I am tinkering with the engine.

that is some great advice
what is a normal reading on the round globe that covers the thermostat?
by the way... my temperature gouge on helm, shows NO reading at all...
I am thinking when my engine got to a VERY HIGH temperature, it damaging something, most likely the temperature sensor?
thanks again for your insight... much appreciated!
any other have thoughts on this engine cooling, sensor issue...
thanks
