Would YOU trust the 14meter's cored hull
I like the idea of having 7 layers of glass between me and the sea. I know the access to the 14 meter's hull via the bilge is good so you can do good inspections. But it being the only model that had a fully cored hull (not just above waterline) I wonder if they've been a problem or not??
I see this for sale not too far away.(link below) I'd trade my boat and my Lincoln Blackwood and $45k for this boat if it checks out alright! Haven't even gone to see it yet but it sure looks delicious and cheap :

what do you estimate the annual costs for operation and maintenance?
How many hours are you putting on your boat and can you justify the expense based on the time you use her?

An older 14 meter with aging systems will require more than average ongoing O&M costs.
More hull to deal with and larger, more expensive components to replace as needed.
A big jump from Tony's gas powered F series.
At the 2002 Trojan Rendezvous at Pirates Cove in Stuart, FL, I spent some time aboard ANDIAMO, a 14 meter sedan.
Harry & Ferge Schoell joined us for a cocktail party onboard her that day. What a magnificient vessel!
I share Tony's enthusiasm for the 14, however I believe the difference in O&M from the F series gasser would be exponential!

Gas money and maintenence aren't a problem...just want to avoid hassles.
I figure it has 6v92TIs - thirsty buggers are not my favorite. But on the other hand my guy at the plant can rebuild them for $2k for the kit each...cheap. Hell, I do all the other maintenence myself or my mechanic who currently owes ME money!
It looks like it's going to be awhile before we get production at Brite Star ramped up to where I'll actually get my own designed boat. So, the 14 meter would be the perfect size for how we use our boat. But a boat cored BELOW the waterline has always been a concern for me...big time. If I kept it on a lift, like some of my neighbors do with similar sized boats, it wouldn't be a problem. But my wife doesn't want our entire view blocked by fifty feet of boat in the air.
That's just so damned cheap and tempting. I'd actually rather find a 14 meter WITH core water intrusion. I'd buy it for $50k and fix it quick.

Juice, I also love the 14m but on the flip side I have had (2) personal friends with cored hulls who had major issues with soaked hulls, they both found them at the end of the year when they pulled the boat and found she put on quite a bit of weight. One boat was totaled by the insurance company a 32' go fast boat, and the other a 42' sailboat got stripped, re-cored, and glassed (actually one time drilling holes and drying out and 2 years later completely stripped and re-cored from a different problem).
Now I cannot make a stupid statement like all cored hulls will have issues, but both of these boats were well taken care of and it seems it did not take much and Bam its soaked. One of them was only 3 years old.......
Just my two pennies worth.

Having core material below the waterline should be a concern. A boat that size has a lot of hull in the water. If water finds a way to get into the core, the core will soak it up 24/7 without you being aware of it happening. Your first indication may be too late, with a large section of the core get saturated. Once the water is in the core, removing it is difficult. You won’t want the boat sitting on blocks waiting for it to dry out, so the core is going to have to be removed and replaced. A very expensive fix.
Murphy ’s Law shouldn’t be overlooked.

Tony,
That 14M is really ice - and a deal @ $119k ask ($<$00k bid).
What engines are in her?
Heck - buy the wife some diamonds (they're on sale at the West Palm pawn shops) and go pick it up!

Yeah-haw!! I used to live in Palm Beach - could have paid the rent with the diamonds running in the gutters. Now they're all singing the Madoff blues! They busted another big money manager over there last week in a similar Ponzi style money manager scheme. Who gives their money to a non-SIPC insured firm ? stupid! Now the only big rocks over there are the ones they smoke in pipes in Riviera Beach.rossjo wrote:Tony,

My wife never wears jewelry, that's how I can buy fuel for a boat with gas engines! Besides, we might as well rack-up all the debt we can now buying a boat so I can escape when USA becomes USA/USSR (closer everyday!)
I think the 12 and 13 meters are only cored above the waterline...might be a better choice huh?
Tony - you're too funny - I think this 14M id beautiful ... my wife is even interested. Maybe we'll sell everything, buy it and move aboard ...
If I were a young man, I would live on something like that! Cheaper than ahouse, and lots more fun - just need a dingee to get to shore.
