does anyone know...
i'm new to this forum but this seemed like the most logical place to get info for my new to me boat.
it is a 1975 trojan f30 it has twin 302 ford engines. i'm in the process of redoing the inside and have got new flooring and most of the woodwork redone. i'm now moving onto the engines. the boat is out of the water and i would like to run the engines. my question is where would the water hook up most liklely be? i was told by an unreliable source that there should be some kind of hook up on the cooling system somewhere. and info would be appeciated! more questions to come...

Welcome to the trojan group . Your engines get water from a thru hull near the front of the engines . you can get a adater to go to the thru hull to hook up water or you can pull the hose off and hook it up to a hose or what I do ,I take the hose off put it in a buckit ang put a garden hose in to the buckit . that way you can tell if the sea water pump is working. This is a good way to add ant-freeze for the winter .

You may want to have a few extra bucket of water on hand. Your water pump can pump more water then the hose can deliver. Use the extra buckets to add water when the level in the original gets low. Running the engine without water will destroy the impeller very quickly.prowlersfish wrote:Welcome to the trojan group . Be aware that you will need to winterize the engine after you run it if there is any chance that the temperture gets below freezing. You may want to wait till mid March or early April to be safe.

Good point , using a good size hose helps alot . also have buckit filled with a antfreeze mix ready to pour in just before shut down . I have done this on all my inboards expept the one I have now , afire hose won't keep up with my diesel pumps . thanks for the information. this is my first boat with inboards so most of it is new to me. it hasn't been run in the water for two years now so i'm thinking the prop shafts are going to need repacking. i am also going to switch the ignition to electronic. she will spend alot of time at idle and i hate the thought of changing points out on the water. just gotta wait untill the 8 foot snow banks melt from around it!![/img]

When I winterize my engines I jack a pot with a rubber gasket over the water intake. The pot is connected with a hose to a 5 gallon bucket. I catch the antifreeze coming out the exhaust in the bucket and circulate it back through the engine. I run the engine until the engine gets to operating temperature. I check the potency of the antifreeze and add more if needed, or shut it off if safe. This way I know the thermostat has opened and antifreeze is fully circulated. Engines are way too expensive to do wrong.
The acronym for BOAT is Break Out Another Thousand. I wish it was only one.

WINTERIZING, I HAVE BOTH A 30 FT CLEAN MACHINE AND AN F32 I WINTERIZE BOTH BY TAKING THE INTAKE HOSE OFF AND PLACING IN A 5 GAL BUCKET WITH ANTIFREEZE. ON THE 30 FT I REMOVE AND DRAIN THE WATER UNDER THE TRANSMISSION COOLERS AND REATTACH. I THEN REMOVE THE THERMOSTATS AND REPLACE THE GOOSE NECKS. RUN 5 GALLONS OF PINK ANTIFREES THROUGH EACH ENGINE AT IDLE. HAVE DONE THIS FOR 10 YEARS NEVER A PROBLEM. REPLACE THERMOSTATS IN THE SPRING WHEN LAUNCHING.

i had a friend of mine run the numbers off of the heads. he told me of a few differences between the 302 and 351. he also told me the differences between the 351m,351w, and the 351 cleveland (i'm not a ford man). according to some website i was on the 302 was 188hp and the 351 was 233hp. i would like to think he knows what he's talking about. you guys have any input?

The (302) 188hp used 351 heads so you can't go by that you can tell by how wide the intake is . the 188 had a 2 v carb and the (351) 233HP have a 4V I beleve . most parts will fit both engines can you post a photo ?
