Another F-26 guy here! Eight seasons now, so I know the boat well. I too have a long list of past projects, both cosmetic and structural.

Congratulations on finally jumping in and getting both feet wet, so to speak. And ditto on advice and help. Having been on the hard for 15+ years, you've got a long and perhaps winding road ahead. The result, I'm sure will be worth every minute.

Good Luck! and if nothing else, have fun...

It makes a big difference whether raw water engines are in fresh or salt water. Fresh water won't hurt the engines or manifolds. That can't be said about salt water.

Thank you to all the great members of this forum for saying hello and offering advice. yes the rebuild journey will be long but enjoyable because its a labor of love, pride, and accomplishment. What makes it even more enjoyable is the fact that i can preform all the work in my own backyard with the help of my own tools, heated garage, air compressor and what little owners manuals i have received with the vessel. If I was to take on this project while the boat was stored in a boatyard and"thats if you can find a boatyard that will let you do your own overhaul work" the project would probably just become a dream not a reality. Just waiting for a little warmer weather here in the great northeast to start the driveline and gas tank removal project Thanks again Brian( Pligrim32)

Welcome Brian,
I hope you come to love your Trojan as much as we love ours. It seems as though there aren't enough days in the CT season to enjoy the Escapade III as much as we'd like to.
Wes

Did you see the notice about the Trojan Rendezvous in August?

jon e guest thanks for the support I'm looking forward to asking you some questions about one of your earlier posts about trojan offering a upgrade to the standard rudder offered for F-26's. This project vessels has a larger than stock rudder blade with a large plate thru bolted to the bottom of the hull don't know if its a cavation plate or the topic you mentioned in your earlier post about a delta wind shape? Hope to have pictures up and running by this weekend for all to sea keep and eye out for the rudder and plate picture thanks Brian (Pilgrim32)

gjrylands The raw water cooled merc i have did all her running time in sea water as far as I've been told. A short story of the motor while the previous owner was motoring up from florida somewhere around Virginia the motor started popping so he pull in for service.Problem was a stuck valve that would act up after long running. Problem happen again around New jersey so the over the road hauler was call which bought it to mass.Boat sat for several yards until owners mechanic tried to turn engine over with wrench on the crank bolt with plugs remove no go "'seized" I want to get it out and on a motor stand to break it down before any more damage is done to the cylinder walls? to see if theres anything to work with? Awesome looking F-36 you have there and with chryslers (sweet) Why did chrysler stop making marine engines?? I hear back in their day they were the work horses of the fleet. pilgrim 32

Hi Brian,

Welcome! I am in Whitman, MA. I too just purchased a f26 this year. Mine was out of the water for 4 year and needs a lot of work - mostly interior work. If you need any thing let me know. I have all original paper work and have stared most of what you are probably going to have to do.

pilgrim32 wrote:Hello all forum members. My name is Brian and I have been viewing the forum for about two years now. It has been a great resource to use while searching the marina's and brokerage listings along with the old boatyard graveyards in search of the "classic diamond in the rough" well i think I found her. She's a 1978 F-26 hardtop thats been out of the water and neglected for at least 15 yrs. She powered up from Florida before being put in outside storage in New England (Mass) all original equipment is still onboard, hull is in great shape ,but drive line is junk. Stringers look and sound ok along with most of the balsa core deck items, roofs ,cockpit sole etc. Had her transported to my home last week and now the journey begins. Just wanted to say hello to everyone and hope to talk to you all later.. Will be posting pictures soon.. I'm already off to a good start I purchased my Trojan Pennant from Jimmini and Dave Kane last month. Respectfully yours Pilgrim32

Hello Brian..

I'm putting the finishing touches on my 71 F26. They are great boats. I did mine on a very tight budget or tried to but... Let me tell you what I'd do differently next time around. I would buy an engine. It doesn't cost that much more than rebuilding yours. And you get a warranty!! When all told, I spent $150 less than if I had bought an engine. Next, bite the bullet and buy exhaust manifolds and risers. They'll cause you more trouble than you can imagine. If you have to wait and save to do all that, then wait and save. You can always be cleaning, painting, oiling, rewiring, etc. doing something to it while you wait. Replace the packing in the shaft seals while the engine is out. Good luck, you are in for an adventure.
