someone told me at the marina that if the bottom of the boat is pretty dirty, the boat may not come up on plane
is that an accurate statement?
the reason I ask is I havent hauled my boat yet, being that I bought it at the end of last season, its been in the water since I bought, and I did motor it up from where I bought it, about 90 miles, and I kinda remember it took alot of juice to get it up on plane
any thoughts??
and I do plan on having it cleaned when Im done with everything else
so thats on the roster
bottom cleanning

Yes will cause extra drag and so increase required hull speed to get same lift... do you use full tab down to get her up on plane then backoff to get max. speed at fixed throttle?

With a dirty bottom it will take a lot more power to get on plane if you still can. the bottom should be cleaned yearly , in some areas more .
The growth on the running gear (props shafts rudders ) is what realy slows you down . you may need to repaint the bottom unless you have muilti coats of muti season bottom paint ; I use to dive under my boat several times a year to clean the running gear . I started useing prop-coat and the gear stays clean. a frend uses speed prop with good results also '
A dirty bottom will strain the engine and burn a lot more fuel I have seen engines over heat due to a dirty bottom . seem $$$$ spent on engine that run hot or not running right only to fine grouth on the running gear /and or bottom .
