water hookup question

boy I feel pretty stupid, but I have a question about the water hookup on my F31, I replaced most of the faucets and water pump etc, and all is good, and works fine, with no problems, but I noticed something , that I didnt notice last year when I bought this boat, there is a water hookup, just below the electrical hookup on my starboard side, and its to hook up a hose , basically a female end fitting that would accom a hose,
now what is this for???is it a substitute for my water tank, when not full? what the heck is that for, and how does it work?

Its so you can use dock water insted of your tank , just hook up a hose leave your pump switch off . the pump has a check valve the stops the water from going into the tank
never leave the boat for any lenth of time with it hooked up . if a pipe burst you could fill the boat with water.

I use my tank at my home dock to keep the water fresh , and use dock water at other marinas when crusing if the water is ok . I don't like filling up water at other marinas as some water seems ok then stinks in a few days

On my F32 I have 2 of those fittings on port side, one for deck washdown and other to use shore supply water rather than pump from water tank.
My guess is you can connect shore water, turn off water pump and have water pressure while at dock.... Try it?

ok, thats kinda what I thought, but wasnt sure what to do with the pump,
so leaving it off, should do the trick,
Ill give it a shot, not sure when the last time it was used , but will give it a go,

Only rider here is if the shore water pressure is high you might want to put a pressure reducer inline with the connection. My guess that is what Prowlerfish is alluding to with his "better get a bucket" comment!

so far everything is working correctly, when I get to the marina I will try to use it

It should hasve a inline pressure reg. my buckit coment had to due with putting water press where it hasten been for a while . (been there before )

my other boat has one of those and i went to walmart and in the RV section i bought a water regulator....i wasnt worried about my boats plumbing as much as the marina having too high of a water pressure which in turn could damage my boat

understood, but I doubt Ill even use it, just wanted to make sure it works, one of my rules is,, if its there it has to work,
I usually just use the tank water, or go to the marinas clubhouse, we have a real nice facility where they have showers, laundry etc,,
so I really dont see the need to have a constant water hook up ,

we drink bottled water on board...don't trust anything that tastes like garden hose,it is nice to have it hooked up for doing dishes...can just let the water run and not run out [and showers]...but ABSOLUTELY don't leave it on when not on board [also shut-off water heater],and invest in a pressure regulator...[did have a pipe blow once when on board and forgot to turn off water input]....

at parkside i like to use my tank as well to keep the water 'fresh' in the tank but also use the shore hookup on occasion. i went to the rv store here in middle river and got a pressure regulator and an exterior inline water filter. when i leave, i put the water hose over the side with a screw cap to close it off and keep critters and schmutz out of the hose, but over the side just a bit in case someone is walking the docks and turns on water to flood boats. i never leave port without water in the tank in case there are any enroute emergencies that will require water to wash a cut or hose someone off who is stranded in the creek. i guess it's the flight attendant in me trying to think outside the box.

My F30 sport fisherman has both shore water and the tank and pressure pump. My F32 only had the on board tank and pump. Last year I installed shore water I put in a check valve to protect the pump, and not fill the tank, and installed the Jabsco hook up. If you look the Jabsco has a pressure regulator built into it so if the marina has their water regulated I am double protected. I do not leave the shore water on when not in the boat so I purchsed one of those Y valves and screwed to directly to the Jabsco hook up that gives me a ball valve on board to quickly turn off the water when I leave. The Y also gives me a place to hook a wash down hose when on shore water. System works great, and I do get a little leary of drinking out of the on board tank (don't know what's growing in there)

ok, I got a good education on this setup,
I just dont do that kind of boating where I would need it hooked up at my dock, we have alot of other options, so it wouldnt be that important to me to have a hose hooked up, I just want to make sure the system is working,
