Price for batteries

Wal Mart, Maxx 29 Deep Cycles are the only batteries I've used for the past 10 years. I have two 105 AH ones wired parallel for house bank. I have a cranking battery for the single engine, and these are all fused and dedicated with a Blue Seas ACR so I never have to worry about overcharging, switching mishaps, etc. I spend a lot of time on the hook during the weekends and run a Norcold fridge, stereo, lights, and VHF off the house bank. Keep in on the charge while at the dock. The Maxx 29's run $65 a piece. I replace them every 4 years. The cranking battery is a group 24 and I replace that every 4 years also. The Maxx 29s are private labeled for Wal Mart by one of the better known battery makers in the US (whose name I can't remember because I'm just so dazzled by paying so little for such great deep cycle batteries......)

One of the joys of being on the east side of Georgian Bay is that I stay out on the hook all weekend and during my 3 week summer vacation.
My deep cycle is a Lifeline AGM battery, love it, it even maintains it's charge all winter disconnected in the boat at below freezing levels.
Agreed. We make it a habit of going out for days at a time and sleeping at anchor. With solar panels charging the deep cell bank, are only limitation is fresh water and beer.

Us, we haven't spent a night out yet but hope to. We have been without the GenSet for the 1st saeson we had the boat but even with going out all day I would rather run off my deep cycles instead of running the Generator all day and using the gas up. I guess I'm cheap that way. Now that the GenSet should be up and running this season I will prolly run it a bit more and not use my battery as much but I would like the option because I hate running the batteries down with just the radio on...

Yep, and the kicker is that there are three of them within 15 miles of me..there used to be some really good ones in the area...but they are gone now. I am really starting to dislike franchise stores.jwrape wrote:Yea, West is overpriced on everything. I on;y go in there to look around, i hardly ever buy anything there.
