1972 Sea Raider Express

Post by kidavists »

I am a fairly new boat owner having purchased my Trojan last December. I am working on restoring my poorly neglected Trojan but am unsure of the engine. I was told it had a 351 Mercruiser rated at 215 hp. In trying to look up the engine to upgrade to an electronic ignition I cannot find this engine listed anywhere. The engine plate has the following information on it: 351 HO then the engine #: 3111194-1 and under that the letters SH. The hull # of my boat is: 210-2026 and under that it has an RH and the numbers 32152-3258185.
Any help would be appreciated. I am brand new to power boating so I am learning as I go. Thanks, Karen Davis

351 HO is (as noted earlier) a Ford 351 Cleveland - and should be at least 235HP ...

There should be a number somewhere on the engine, but I too am not relay a Ford guy (although I have a 260 in my Sunbeam Tiger).

Make sure the electronic ignition is marine rated ... don't want any fires.

Right above the flywheel, there should be a plate that says Mercruiser on the top, then a line for model, and then a line for serial number. The line for model should indicate the hp and direction, eg. 233 R, meaning 233hp and right. The serial number line will have a string of numbers that are a code for the model and year, etc.

It will not be a Cleveland very few clevelands were use in marine use as the parts are alot diffrent .None of your major marine engine companys like merc. used them . The winsor was the norm for most companys
