10 Meter Fuel sending unit

Post by Apple »

I need to replace the fuel gauge on my 86 10 meter Sedan. Does anyone know the ohm reading for the factory gauge? I am replacing it with a VDO Vanguard gauge to go with the new gauge panels from Cummins. VDO offers 10-180 and 35-240 ohm senders.

Wish I could tell you the correct resistance on that guage. I can tell you that several years ago I replaced my sending unit, and it was simply an off the shelf unit from West Marine stores.

When I did the repower I replaced all the guages. The fuel guage is a VDO and was purchased from Lauderdale Speedometer. A telephone call to them should answer your ohms question.

Just curious, RWS, did you have to empty the gas tank to replace the sender? I have to replace two, and need to know whether or not to get all the gas out....

In case anyone is interested, I spoke to John at MarineTech and he informed me that the sender used by Trojan was a 240-33 ohm sender. Like RWS posted previously, it's basically a standard off-the-shelf unit from most marine stores.

I did not have to drain the tank as the sender is located on the top of the tank. However, since there was no inspection plate, I had to cut a hole in the cockpit deck and install a removable deckplate in order to gain acces to the sending unit for replacement.

Four years later I replaced the entire tank while doing a repower.

Good luck,
