OH I hope so.... I have that part fixed but haven't had an opportunity to slide it back in....
I can almost assume with good reason that the bad resistor was the only issue causing it to run like that because of the symptoms of how it was running.

It would run good for a minute or two and then start getting flaky. Resembles the way the resistor was acting when it was tested with the fluke meter, it would show a resistance at first and then go open....

I'm almost certain that we have found and corrected the trouble, only thing now is to test it out on Friday evening.

But nevertheless, the GenSet has never kept us from going out, only kept us from enjoying some of the luxuries that 110v provide. :lol:

If it works, i am running it most of the day to give it a good running since it hasn't ran for more than 30 minutes in about 4 years. I have ran it many times for approx 20-30 minutes but then it has always either studdard when the points were in it before the EI or it bogged once this resistor went bad.

This weekend I am hoping for constant clean running..... I so excited to see what she'll do.... Hopefully it will be a new life for the ol' girl.

I know you guys can relate to the feeling of finally getting something fixed right after working so long and hard on it. :shock:
And knowing you won't have to re-visit that problem again for a while and can focus on other projects around the boat like the wood.

Before you run it I would remove that second battery from the genny connection. Just disconnect those black leads from the + and - poles.

It may well be causing extra load on the genny electrics as it is designed for only one battery on it's charging circuit.... and as we have discussed can see no way that it can service the house as it is not connected to the boats 12V circuit!

Yea, I'm gonna trace out the power leads and figure that one out...

It boggles me that there are two batteries for the genSet anyways. It should only need one, and not a deep cycle but a starting battery, instead it has two deep cycles? Weird....
But on the flip side, if I isolate the generator I can buy one starter battery and use the two Deep Cycles as my house batteries because they are the same age and have been together the whole time anyways so no need to buy new batts for the house. Just gotta figure out where the house batteries are wired in......

The worst thing about old boats is coming behind the previous owners and figuring out what in the world they were thinking when modifying the wiring on the boat.... Some things are just impossible to figure out what happened along the way....

As far As I know there has been AT LEAST 6 previous owners, but probably more. I need a CarFax LOL!

Ya know what! It just hit me!
My House is connected to at least one of the engine motors. Reason I say is because I have ran the house battery down and then couldn't start one of my engines without using the Emergency switch to cross them over.

That's it, it's gotta be connected to the engine battery....

Duh!
I definately gotta do some seperating this weekend. I beleive I have enough cables down there. I have a few extras in the tool box that came with the boat, prolly from where they changed it all up......

Wow, I'm glad I remembered that. It should make it a little easier to figure out.

Yes the genny should be starting only.
With this info my earlier recommend to split should be replace with a starting battery.

Yep, gonna do that now. Gonna pick up a battery on my way home and take it with me this weekend.

Gotta build a new battery box to fit 3 batteries instead of only two.

No one else doing anything for Memorial Day weekend. It's the kick off of the season. Gotta get a cruise in or somethin'. I would think someone would share in my enthusiasm and excitement for a good boating weekend. :roll: :D

For me, it's the first weekend I have had off since Feb. 1st.

It's not a long weekend for me but still going out early Friday till Sunday.

Here's where I'm going, 1st part of route off main channel:

This gets me to my anchorage where I tie back to pins in the rocks and have a pretty flat rock outcrop for setting up BBQ and chairs. No swimming yet as water's still V brisk.

Im going to hold my breath , jump into the water with a sharp knife, and cut the damn line wrapped around my prop,,, thats what Im doing this weekend,, anybody want to join me???? lol

I'm doing the same thing I've been doing for the last 2 months. Going to the boat yard and working on the boat. The light at the end of the tunnel is getting brighter.

Going up this afternoon with wife, coming home Tuesday morning. Big doins at the yachet club - passbye of boats between the 2 clubs on the lake (lah dee dah), Sunday opening ceremonies and cookout. We'll probably spend Sat and Sunday nights out on the lake if the weather holds. Building a "nest" for 2 kayaks on the hardtop roof and installing gutters on the side cabin windows. Typical Adirondack weather can make or break the weekend - don't like the weather, wait a couple of hours and it will change...

Eww! I've ALMOST had to do that once when I sucked the party line into the prop after becoming a drift after the anchor let go once. BUT fortunately I had a friend that could hold his breath really well that was able to pull it lose for me. I considered myself extremely fortunate.

I hate it for you :cry:
