Flywheel info.
Hello everyone, I'm looking for information on a flywheel for a 1974 Trojan F-32. The boat has Chrysler 318's with velvet drives. I had a starting problem where the starter would spin but it would not engage the flywheel. After exausting all of the usual culprits including a new starter I started looking a lot closer and discovered that starter drive when in the fully engaged position could not reach the ring gear. I removed the flywheel and discovered that the ring gear had moved toward engine (away from the starter). What I am wondering is if this is the correct flywheel for this application. The flywheel that I have has the ring gear shoulder on the same side as the starter. This is the opposite of what is normal on a car setup. Does anyone know if this is the way it should be, or can I have an incorrect flywheel? Thanks in advance for any information you can share with me.

It uses the same flywheel as a car or truck ( with a standard trans ) the starter should not be able to push the ring gear off replace the ring gear and if makes you feel better you can have it tack welded in a few spots .

I never have felt the need to tac one my self but know others that have with no isses . just do it in equel spots apart and keep the welds the same size you should be find . the ring gear should be heated before in stalling I have used a oven before (dont heat the fly wheel )
