my starboard shifter has been really stiff since i bought this back in february. last night around 1am as i was backing into the dock, of all times, the bracket that holds the shifters in place broke and i had a hell of a time working the shifters in order to get docked.
the two parts which broke are just below the two upper screws, which allows the entire mechanism to move about, making it really hard to move the shifters.
i tried using some jb weld on the broken part today, and it's not going to work.
so, i need to find a replacement. does anyone have one laying around, or know where i can find one? will any type of shifter work (i.e. morse)?
I am sure that becon marine has one of these shifters ,those guys got everything . If not I have a few in my shop you can contact me at mrsluggo121@aol.com and we can make arangments to get one to you by the weekend ;Jack
tuck if its the same as when i was with you the corrosion in the cable at the upper station is causing the insert not to slide in and out of the sheath. the shifters should easily move from forward to reverse. if this is the cable i remember it may need to be replaced to the upper station, if it is you might be smart to replace both if they appear to be the same age since the you figure they have been exposed to the same elements over time. it seemed like the lower helm station worked fine when i isolated the upper station.but thats been a while back now.

See if the cables are causing stress on the shifter pivots and levers. Once you find the cause, lubricate or repair. Then replace with the beefier Morse controls.

and yep, i'm having the shifter cables replaced as well. had a gentleman who's worked on the boat in the past come by to look at it yesterday...order the cables...and is going to fix me up.
