Where ever you put the transducer, it should be in a clear water flow. What I mean by clear water flow, is undisturbed water. The water going past the transducer should not pass over the keel, intakes, or any other thing that would disrupt the flow. It doesn't matter whether it is a through hull, transom mount, or glued to the inside of the hull. Any disruption of the flow will show up as interference on the screen.

cuppa, i don't know about using a thru hull as a shoot thru hull, but with your transom mount unit, you can use it as a shoot thru hull.

i finally got the wire run this afternoon. got it up to the engine bilge and up to the wire chase in between the windows with no problem, but had a hell of a time getting it through the last bit at the top. so, after two hours of trying, my friend and i cut the cable, and got it through...then reconnected, of course.

i have it where i said i was going to place it...rear bilge, centerline. although i've moved it up about a foot, just in front of the water tank. sitting at the dock, i get a good reading, which was confirmed by two other boats near me. i'll epoxy it tomorrow morning.

i'll keep ya's updated. but again, if it works as it did last night when i had it out for a run, it'll work good enough for moi.

I would guess you could possibly run both at the same time as long as they are on differnt freq. The way the unit works is to send a signal and read the return, if the same freq I would suspect incorrect readings. Since reading the return signal it would not know which unit and when it was sent the information could be incorrect. The Garmin I install had this in the instructions about not running dual units.
