hydraulic steering helm 87 mid cabin

Post by ssonnie »

I recently bought this project boat that I am in the processing of bringing back to life. I had a fluid leak due to a broken seal. I removed the wheel and the lines took apart the helm and replaced the seal. When everything was back together I confirmed the lines were holding 15psi but the steering is not working. Could it be I needed to prime first? I am new to this steering any help would be great. Thanks in advance.

Keep turning the wheel back and forth make sure you have plenty of fld in the tank . I can email you the install instructions if you need them tells how to bleed it

Thanks, I turned the wheel in each direction more than 10 times 1/2 rotation each time with no luck. I am going to take the middle/skinny line off the fitting which I think is the bleed (3 line system) and see if I can bleed it that way. Do you know if I should see fluid coming from this line as the air comes out? Thanks, Sean
