10 meter international 1985

Post by Rod Childs »

I have purchased a 1985 tTrojan with very little in the way of documentation. I am currently interested in the waste holding system. It is a vacum system with a 40 gallon holding tank. The 3/4 full light never comes on, but the full lite comes on after very little use. Where might this holding tank be and how do I get to the sending units ?

I have the 1982 version of your boat. Assuming the tank hasn't moved, it is located centerline betwen the stringers just aft of the bulkhead separating the engineroom from the salon. The engineroom deck forms its lid. You'll be able to trace the pump out hose to be certain. You should be able to see the sender wiring sticking out the top of the tank.

Thank from me also! At last I´ve got answer for the same question. I have found the holding pump on the starboard side, right offside the tank. With pipes and wires. :)

Rod, Is it an express model or Mid cabin model? On my mid cabin model the holding tank is under the fwd berth.

Funny...... My boat is missing the holding tank. There is a plastic hose from the toilet, trough the wall to the engine room, into a pump and direct trough the hull and into the water.

PK:

On the express models the tank is intergral to the construction of the boat. You will find it in the engine room, between the stringers. The forward engine room bulkhead and the liner down to the engine room bilge area close it off fwd and aft.

The "lid" is actually removable (a major chore, I have personal xperience with)

If you examine the engine room center floor, moving forward toward the bulkhead you should find two fittings approx 1.5" - 2" Those are the pump in and pump outs for the system. There is also a vent line directly into the "lid" and another fitting for the high waste sensor light in th head.

If you decide to reconnect the system you will have to determone which of those 2 fittings is IN and OUT as the OUT has a pipe connected to the bottom of the holding tank.

Here's a couple of photo links including those showing the tank with the lid removed.

Good luck,

RWS

Thanks for nice photos!! It is just the same as I have in my boat. I have just found the holding tank, just under the "floor" in the engineroom. But the tank is empty, and the hoses are disconnected. Maybe I will change the pump to a stronger one, and put everything back in the original order...?

Today my wife and I took the boat for a little ride, just to be familiar with her (the boat). After a couple of hours things vent out of control, at least for my wife. Port engine got a high temp warning, and after some ten minutes more I had to shut it down. There was no more cooling water in there, and we limped back to the harbour on only starboard engine. I have found a small crack in one of the pipes between the heat exchanger (do not know what your name on this thing is....), and the reservoir tank. On the outside of the engine. I had never opened the deck hatch when the engine is running, so........ I also took a quick inspection of the other pipes and hoses, and will get some new tomorrow. So is life, hard and filty.
