So here is the information for all my friends on trojanboats.net:
I followed the float drop settings from the LM318 manual from marysville marine and set the shut off at 3/16" gap......Well then I read a performance manual on AFB carbs and it stated 7/16" so I tried 3/8 to 1/2" for good measure and guess what........It worked perfect....No drips.
From what I read (dont know how true it is) but the octane and fuel expands more now a days than back in 1970 when the manual was written so when then engine is shut off the residual heat will cause the fuel to expand between the fuel pump and carb float bowl thus burping over into the main and secondary jets.......
Huh go figure.... regardless of the reason, it worked and I didnt follow the directions.....Im gonna go tell the wife to proove I dont always have to follow directions to get things to work right
