10m mid cabin - rain water leak fixed

I fixed what appeared to be a long term leak yesterday. The area above the dinette where the two port holes are located was getting really wet after a heavy rain.

I pulled the access panel away and looked up inside and I could see where water was dripping down in multiple locations. They seemed to be pretty equally spaced apart and I immediately thought of the screws that attach the rub rail. With some quick measurements, I confirmed that was the case.

I removed the screws one by one, coated the threads in 4200 and re-installed. It rained the next night and it was better but not 100%.

I looked a little a little closer at the rub rail and could see where it used to be caulked between the black part of the rail and the boat. I wound up running tiny bead down the entire length of the boat and that solved the problem after a hard test rain last night.

The water was working its way through the screw holes but by caulking this joint, it prevents the water from getting behind the rail to begin with.

If you are getting any sort of streaking or wet spots on either side of the cabin, I would do this first.

The surveyor thought that the leaks were likely coming from fuel/water and railing mounts. They need to be re-bed as well but I bought myself a little time.

I had to rebed the railing mounts on mine.

It was a big job but it took care of the problem.

The more you mess around on her the more you will appreciae the design and engineering that went into her.

I was hoping to do all of this during the off season but the leaks are forcing my hand to deal with them now. I still haven't left the slip!
